De Jong

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Stuck up for him last week and wouldn't single him out for the goal, I just thought his all round performance today was diabolical.

I can barely recall seeing him win a ball, make a telling pass, close an opponent or do anything that can actually be classed as a proper contribution. He didn't even press them when they were in possession, he let them have it until they were on top of us

I thought he was awful and I was amazed that he wasn't replaced after 60/70 mins with Zabba. He did point a lot which made me draw comparisons with McManaman.

Honestly, an empty jersey.

Man of the match first half by miles.
Quieter in the second but who the fuck (Bellamy and Given) wasn't?
All we are saying is give Doug a pass.

I think its ridiculous to jump at him for today. Faded in the second half, but i think his 1st half was quality.
To be honest our shape in general was great for away day. And to be honest id say ireland was quieter today.

I was objective in what I said about him, I think what I was was factual. He had a good first half as I implied (it wasnt until the second half we changed formation, and there were more than him that didnt play well after it)

De Jong is there to break up their play. 9 interceptions today would strongly suggest that he did this.

He also doesn't give the ball away very often, 25 successful passes out of 26.

They are right now showing slow motion the build up to first goal in slow motion. The way De Jong simply avoids doing his job is just amazing.

To think we have never-say-die player like Zabaleta on the bench makes me cry.

HMMMM...Strange post to ridicule him..I saw a very good Nige 1st half and a bad one 2nd half, but apart from Bellers and Given, the rest of the team didnt do it for me 2nd half either.Sorry NQDP gotta disagree with you at single him out as the big bad wolf on this one bud.

Ireland was fookin awful second half. I dont understand what happened to us. We was great in the first and the second we was shockin!! its like they all smoked a shit load of pot durin half time.

I was gettin so mad at players just standing around and not actually wantin the ball.

The first goal i would point more toards SWP for not tracking Evra as they were up against each other formationally, although Richards standing around pointing wasnt helping anyone out.

De Jong was fine in the middle. Outwide was the issue.

I full well understand what his job is having played in same role for long time. He wasn't doing his job. Certainly not in the second half.

Harsh truth is that posession usually tells the harsh story of how well midfield is defending and at around 75 minutes it was 78-22 to Rags. I don't think I've seen similar stats before in competitive game, certainly not in Premier League.

And I wasn't blaming him (alone) for their first but for their second I most certainly do. All of you, just look the goal again from the very beginning, not from the cross but where the whole situation started.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
