Today's win takes none of the sting out of giving up on a tournament for me.

Actually winning today does take the sting out, I am happy and warm and possibly very drunk at the moment though.

Still, giving up our best route to silverware will sing like a hangover tomorrow.

Unless Mancini thinks our best route to silverware is the Premiership :)

now THAT would be a statement, but only 6 in and still 4 points off the pace, if we start tearing up teams like the Wigan's of the league we'll be there or there abouts come April. Backing up this result against the Delusional North will be just as important as today.

And this is why... Mancini rests his first team and we beat Chelsea, we have played just one poor match out of 6 in the league and have not had the rub of the green yet we're only behind 3rd place on goal difference.

Mancini made the right decision risking the CC as he got us right back into the race, despite a poor start we're only 4 points off the top and we've already beat the current champions / table toppers.

The bit I don't get is that the Carling/League Cup is somehow crappy and way beneath the big clubs' ambitions.

Just look at who have won the League Cup for the best part of the last 15 years... yes, the so-called big 4!

This argument about it not mattering just doesn't stack up. Or are we supposedly expected to have lesser ambitions than the top clubs?

That doesn't sound very supportive of the manager, if you believe he's not good enough to challenge for everything in the same way as the other top clubs do. It's like your faith in him is extremely limited.

They dont take it seriously, why should we, City havent finished building yet, not even nearly, concentrating on the League will get us Champions League football and then we'll be able to complete our squad in the transfer window, we'll then be able to seriously compete in every available competition and uder Mancini we'll win the lot.

Mancio is the real deal - has a game plan and a team that is beginning to gel - he was right not to play our best team at WBA - lots of injuries and still trying to build momentum as a cohesive team

Theres nothing wrong with 'knee jerk' reactions. They are usually an expression of a posters feelings at the time which is why the forum is here.

Its the ones who stay quiet when we dont win then play the 'i was right all along' card when we do that im not fond of.

It is fairly safe to say that we will improve from what we are right now, we came into this season thinking that we could have one of the best teams/squads in the league. imo it is no longer a question of whether we are good enough, players, ability and spirit, it is more a question of tactics on the day and if we continue to turn up week in week out.

Spare a thought for Chelsea fans mate... Out of the CC after fielding a decent side at home, two long term injuries, unbeaten record GONE, back in the pack of top4 chasers, 2 defeats in a row going into CL tomorrow and Arsenal on Sat.
It doesn't condone going out of the CC, but it could be a lot worse.

In fairness they are having a bit of a lull yet are still top of the league by 3 clear points (4 in reality as they have an immense goal difference)and have the potential to win the premiership, champions league and FA Cup. I doubt they are too worried yet.

Ha ha, I am sure he will appease you eventually. I am glad that City are playing this defensive negative football, it is exactly what Chelsea did for years, they shut the door at the back and built forward, eventually become the force they are today. You cant run before you can walk.

Chelsea are now the best side in the league by a country mile and we have even more potential than they do. This is a tried and tested theory that has proven results, all it takes is time and faith in the man in charge.
