Yaya - standards have been set

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Yaya - standards have been set

Yaya Toure believes that City laid down the perfect Premier League marker by defeating Chelsea.

Carlos Tevez’ 59th minute goal, coupled with superb team defending, handed the defending Champions their first defeat and first goalless ninety minutes in the defence of their crown.

It was an object lesson in team work and hard work and Toure jnr feels the bar has now been set by Roberto Mancini’s men.

“It was a big win, an important win and showed that Chelsea is a team that can be beaten just like any other,” he said.

“We have now beaten Liverpool and Chelsea at home so it shows that we are developing as a unit. It was very hard work out there but the kind of game players enjoy.

"The midfield was crowded at times but
we didn’t back down from the
challenges and all our players could be
pleased with their contribution"

“Now we have to show more consistency. We have a lot of injuries but we have a strong enough squad to keep pace with the top sides.”

Toure and his midfield allies were dominant throughout and Dutch international Nigel de Jong took up the theme of standard setting for the rest of the campaign.

"We just have to work hard and continue this,” was de Jong’s reaction. "From the first minute we put the pressure on Chelsea and made sure we kept it on. That is how we must play in every game.

"If you saw how we defended from the front to the back that's why we kept a clean sheet."

In fact it was the fourth blank drawn by the opposition in six Premier League games. The Blues have conceded just two goals – a penalty and a freak effort against Blackburn – so far this season.

Much of that is due to the defensive screening by the midfield but some of it is due to the form of those behind with Yaya quick to praise his elder brother Kolo.

“He has had a great start to the season, I think Kolo is playing really well,” declared Yaya. “I know he is enjoying his football a great deal at the moment and he and Vincent Kompany are both looking strong.”

Hmmm?

We also set the standard against Liverpool.

Better not let standards slip this time.
