Quietly optimistic about this lad. Not going to say anything more at this stage.

Hope he comes off without any knocks and plays on Sunday too

Thought he looked top tonight, he should be even better when he's 100% match fit.

Here here, a bit of presence, very good on the ball and a threat going forward (RB only!)

Why is he nit in the box for corners? I'd fancy him to outjump/outmuscle most defenders yet he stayed on the edge of the area for all the corners whilst tevez and Barry were in there!

He has got a hell of a cross on him hasnt he?! We're going to score quite a few from that kind of delivery. Top performance from him today. He looks like a class act.

Most of the best balls into the box came from him. Why our wide players can't even get one decent ball per month in, when a fullback can do that with both feet is beyond me. Thought he dealt much better with Krasic than Zabba & generally defended well although he badly mistimed one or two headers.

He's going to turn us into Stoke. I don't have a problem with this mind you. You go with what you've got.

I thought he looked rusty. Didn't do it for me but I figured it's just as he's still not fit. Can cross obviously but so could I if noone shut me down.

Was at fault for the goal for me.
Tracking back is overrated.

Defintly rusty but i see the brilliance that will come from him very soon..i'll second that he was at fault for the goal, it was like the tevez goal against chelsea, if the defender challenged him rather then backtracking so much the opportunity was gone

I think the system Mancini wants to play will allow him to play to his strengths. Have to admit I didn't think he was a particularly special defender when watching Hamburg but always admired his composure on the ball. Once everyone's fit though, we'll likely see de Jong and Barry switch between being midfielders and full-backs mid game, while Boateng and Kolarov spend a lot of time in the opposition half, delivering crosses. That's one thing they're both very good at.

Tonight he looked nice and neat, some lovely passes and crossfield balls but he afforded Iaquinta and a couple of their players too much time and space. Needs to get tight and pressurise rather than sit back because there's always the danger they'll unleash a shot like we saw tonight.
