Why though?

Your opinion is not based on any facts. You dont go to games, your feelings are based on information you get through the media and from other people. You dont know how things are at the club, you only think you know.

So again why? What is the purpose of your post? Do you want other fans to agree with you to validate your opinion? Do you want them to change your mind by presenting different information?

Or are you just posting a sensationalist view point to create a reaction?......that sir, is the definition of a wind up merchant.

I have openly admitted in the past when I have deliberately started wind up posts but this my friend is not one of them.........
just out of curiosity how many 'home' grown players have played first team football this season?
in the good old days we had let me see..........Dowd,Pardoe,Oakes,Doyle,Connor,Young,Booth,Bowyer,Towers,Corrigan...........
That's one of my concerns about the way things are at the moment, they have either been loaned out or moved on.

The purpose of Crossan's post is to express his feelings, as he's entitled to do like everyone else. If you don't like it you don't have to read it. Supporters of his (our) generation do have mixed feelings about a lot of the modern world and when City win something I suspect we will all have our joy slightly tempered by the thought that we did it the modern way not the way it used to be. For some like Crossan it's more than slightly, for John68 it might be just a fleeting thought that gets swept away in the celebrations, but we old 'uns will all have it to some degree.

Nice Crossie mate. You've extrapalated everything the media and rags have been saying and put it into one neat paragraph. Well done pal ;-)

You're letting the crap that is written and reported by us by the Rag media get to you mate, there is a change in football - it isn't just us.

Perhaps the only thing is we, as fans, are having to shift our attitudes from a club that everyone looked at and went "Awww Poor City, they must be so Loyal going through the pain they go through" to a club that people actually envy now and wish thiers was like ours. I actually think we struggle to accept that we're going to be successfull, we dont know how to handle that yet - but we'll have plenty of practice I hope.

But in true City style we'll allways be able to dip into doom, gloom and dispair several times along the way - for old times sake!

The Man In Blue wrote:Crossan. I know in the past i have been scathing of your posts on this subject, but i'll try and have a bit more empathy this time. The thing is though, as walmai points out the game itself has changed irrevocably, even from the time i started getting into footy in the mid/late '90s. You may feel totally disenchanted by the sums of money swilling about, or the wages players earn, or any one of hundreds of things that the prem era has brought and there's no faulting you in that; if it's how you feel it's how you feel.

The biggest change of all imo is something that has happened to every single area of life in the 21st century, and that is the internet and the 24/7 media coverage of every single little fucking detail of everything analysed, repeated, debated, repeated again ad infinitum. this is something we can never get away from ever again, and if that has fucked things up for you i'm genuinely sorry about it and gutted that another blue has come to this kind of pass.

For me though, City gives me a feeling like nothing elee in my life; walking up the steps to 211 into a full stadium to watch a game, giving it out to a pub full of plastics in Preston on sunday, sitting at my desk on a shite, boring day at an interminable job daydreaming about the next game, or who will play wide left, or just how fucking good big Vinnie has become.

At the end though, the club is still the club. Fans like me and you are the sons of fans who were the sons of fans who were the sons of fans and so on. We are the club, and nothing, no money, rich/skint owners, bullshitting journos, spoilt players or inept referees can destroy that.

Keep the faith mate.

We all miss the good old days from before Sky and the Premier League, and everyone dreams of a successful club on merit and not money, however it is football that has changed, not the club, City are rolling with the punches better then any club in the world.

You have either two options;

1) Don't follow football anymore - which includes not reading/posting about it.

2) Get behind the club and stop crying.

Please keep the faith Crossan, I am like you and can remember how it used to be, and sometimes I am not happy with the way football has gone, but things change mate and we have to change with it , I know some things are hard to accept but this is the same in all walks of life, I personally feel it would be such a shame for you to stop following the club you have loved all of your life.
I am going to keep the faith, I just dont think I could live without my beloved CITY.

You're right Crossan, too much has changed. For years (bar Bernstein) our club was miss-managed and dragged further and further down, ultimately even under Thaksin things got very very close to ultimate doom when we could'nt pay the wages. In turn this makes fans love their club even more, like when youre just about to split with a loved one and you realise you want to pull together and appreciate what you have and protect it. Thats how we have been with City for years and years just hanging on in there and keeping City close to our hearts. Now.. we have won the equivalent of the football lottery and that has enabled us to not only catch up but also move further forward than most clubs. That kind of takes away from us our need to protect our beloved City because rather than other clubs fans slag us off and laugh at us like we are used to, they know we are going places, they look at us with envious eyes and because we can just in a way sit back and smile it takes away some of the every day battle and drama. You've supported City for years so now its time to enjoy the imminent rewards.. just enjoy it and realise how lucky we are.
