Gai Assullin has allegedly signed

and has been added to the reserve squad from various un-trustworthy sources - far too many for it to be un-true though IMO so we'll probably have this official soon

On October 8 Assulin finally signed a 4 year contract with Manchester City, and owing to his being under twenty-one years of age, is eligible to play for the City first team immediately as English squad rules allow use of an unrestricted number of under twenty-one year old players.

No pressure there then.

I noticed this ont net earlier but was waiting for someone to actually put their name to one of the articles before actually taking it as true in case it's the same bollox they're all repeating. If we have signed him though, he must have been pretty impressive as we're trying to get unused players off the wage bill rather than add to it.

I am sure this is a stupid question but how can we sign anybody outside the transfer windows?

You can still sign players who are out of contract, gives them a chance of a job and earnings.

I thought he was injured and that's why we didn't sign him? Although in saying that... that usually does not stop us to sign anyone actually...

Reports today are suggesting City sent him to a rehabilitation centre to get over his injury. Thats why it all went quiet after he first turned up for a trial. Now he has completed his rehab and is fit, City took another look before signing him on.

By all accounts this should be good, as he was trained up by Barca and was in the same year group as Pedro who broke into Barca's squad during last season. Before his injury at Barca he was tipped to get into the squad before Pedro. So make of that what you will. By all accounts he should be a good little player. Will be interesting when they return to training to hear what Douglas has to say about him.

If he's signed, why hasn't the club announced it yet? This is all coming from the same Spanish newspaper and we know how reliable they are.

Despite the free printing, don't think I'll be getting Gai on the back of my shirt

Can't wait to hear the jokes surround his first name. Hopefully he has a think skin if/when he becomes a big star.

Great stuff.

Doubt he will get a sniff this season though. Its a good example of how we will start doing things. Like Arsenal, sign the promising ones young, and develop them.

very interesting this one. firstly weather he's signed or not, secondly would barca really let 'the new messi' go?. i for one will be very excited to watch his progress if he has signed though.

Just to put everyone a bit straighter on this. Barca had him tracked to break into the first team before last season, ( if anyone remembers he played in the second half of the Gamper Trophy v City at the Camp Nou ), he was ahead of Pedro in that respect. Then he got injured, quiet serious i think and during the rehab process he fell out with Barca over the treatment process. As a result of that he found a loophole in the contract with Barca and opted out of the contract, Barca fought it but it was found in favour of Gai. So there you go thats the story and why he was a free agent. City had been tracking him for a while and invited him to trial a while back before he was fully fit apparently.

As for the new Messi tag, thats something that has come from within Barca. if you bear in mind that he was seen as ahead of Pedro who broke into the team last year and played in the league and CL, i might add superbly, and is now a regular, then it gives possibly some idea of the esteem they held Gai in.

maybe it is all ott, but it seems we are going to find out for ourselves.
