Kolo ready for climb to top

Postby Mark (Blue Army) » Mon Oct 11, 2010 2:39 pm

Kolo Toure is ready to climb football’s medal mountain for a second time.

Having been festooned with medals during a glittering stay at Arsenal, the Ivory Coast defender is planning on the taste of success being just as sweet the second time around.

Toure bagged a Premier League title and two FA Cup victories whilst a Gunner and is determined to add to his personal roll of honour.

When he left for City in 2009 there were many ready to write him off, even more so when he missed some of the last campaign through injury.

But a string of tip-top performances alongside Vincent Kompany in a miserly defence have silenced the doubters and 29-year-old Toure is promising there is still improvement left in him.

“I feel so much fitter now than I did last season, I have been happy with my form but there is more to come. I can still get better,” he declared.

"There was always going to be a period
of adjustment because it is not easy to
move clubs when you have been used
to one way of football life for eight
years"

“Now I am settled in Manchester, I know everyone at the club; I know how it all works and feel very happy and comfortable with the way things are going.”

The Blues resume their Barclays Premier League programme at Blackpool this weekend, the first time in 40 years that they have visited Bloomfield Road in a top flight contest.

Roberto Mancini’s men are looking for a fourth straight win in the competition to maintain the pressure on leaders Chelsea.

“We have to be pleased with what we have done so far,” he went on. “But we know we will get better as the season progresses, as we get to know one another and as the injured players begin to come back.

“I came here to win trophies and play Champions League football and that is what we are all working hard to achieve.

“I have played in one great team and I want to be part of another one. I think I still have five or six years to play at the top level and I want to make the most of them.

“People who know me, know that I am as enthusiastic about the game as I have ever been. I look forward to coming into work every single day and seeing this City side keep improving.”

Kolo's improvement this year is one of the highlights so far for me. Always been a big fan from is Arsenal days so was bemused at the performances of the player we bought last summer. One of the first names on the team sheet at the moment long may that continue.

It's brilliant that he's found his form. Hope he maintains it now and truly silences the haters.

I don't think there are many City fan "haters"

I was certainly just amongst the confused/disappointed at the Kolo we were presented with last year....who was a shadow of the player who was brilliant for the Arsenal

He's been fantastic this season. Credit to him

I recall comments like "fuck off out of my club" "useless waste of money". "not good enough"

like I said. Haters. Haterz even. H8rs even still.

Yep - it's only a matter of time before someone posts something like "he should be doing his ffing talking on the pitch not mouthing off to the press" etc. How dare he?

I'd love to see that as well. These arguments get tossed around here quite easily these days. Kolo was quite poor last season and lot of people weren't happy with him. I don't recall anyone telling him to get fucked though.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Both Kolo and Kompany have really benefitted from the deeper lying midfielders and the tighter unit our entire team has become when defending in our own half. They both have performed very well with this protection.

However, get the team playing in the same way as last year with open spaces for the opposition attackers and their form will return to how it was. Kompany would overstretch for tackles and get too tight up field and easily be turned; Kolo would get outmuscled in a straight fight for the ball and end up slipping on his arse.

The thing that has aided Kolo's form more than anything else is taking the captaincy from him ... he's not vocal enought to be a captain imo

Ran a search on this as I was sure that Dazby was right. Here's an excerpt from one post by citytilidie on Dec 19 last year:

"Toure can fuck off in jan now. Hes cost Hughes his job."

Not trying to name and shame anyone (sorry citytilidie), but Dazby was right on this one. There will be other examples too. Quite a lot of vitriol was being directed towards Kolo last winter and that's a fact.

Wooders:

"might be an idea to try toure at RB?

Did he get huffy at arse for being played at RB though? Seem to remember something like that, if he didn't, its definately worth a try as he's good at attacking runs"

Ted Hughes:

"Exactly what I was thinking, if he doesn't like it he can try fucking off instead."

28th February. Again, I'm not having a go. But he was a VERY unpopular player on this forum last season.
