i dont like it, i find it fairly embarrassing. but as already mentioned nearly every club does it. i find it embarrassing for them as well though.

i just find it a bit classless.

Right.

He should take the genius out of his name because he's not fooling anyone, right?

Please don't compare a terrorist attack on innocent people which not only killed but also changed thousands of people's lives in a way you could never imagine, and not just in the US but all over the world, and not just the victims of the actual attack but also innocent muslims trying to get on with their own daily life and now face prejudice because of one certain group, to an unplanned and unfortunate plane crash that killed 21 people.

I feel sorry for the families of the air disasters, or any tragedy for that matter, but not for United as a club because they've cashed in on it ever since.

I sometimes call them munich's because i live on the isle of man, and its full of nobhead fans, and when i'm in the same pub as them i always hear the horrible twats singing hillsborough songs, and i get hillsborough txt's from nobhead fans from manchester aswell.

i know two wrong's don't make a right but,
there just horrible smelly twats IMO!!

Most posters defending the Munich chant are doing so as they claim it's a way to rile United fans and isn't gloating about the deaths of the victims.

By this logic we would be justified in giving Tottenham fans Nazi salutes.

And it's not 'PC bollocks' it's common decency. We're better than this repellant chant makes us appear.

To say that I'm comparing the holocaust to the Munich crash is missing the point at best, and at worst, really dim.

Anyway you know what I meant I hope...

The thing is, in the heat of the moment things aren't always seen in Black and White. I've been at Derby's where it is actually the United fans who start the silly Plane Wings like little kids, which seems quite confusing to me. At the same time, during certain times in the match when insults are being hurled, the worse comes out of people and it is usually an immediate reaction out of sorts with normally well balanced individuals.

For what it's worth, my step-son is a United fan who also happens to have a City SC and attends every game. He cheers along as a Blue but changes his tune on the Derby Days. Anyway, when we sing the Tevez song we change the Munich to Taggart and he asked me why we sing 'Taggart'. I told him that we didn't agree with the Munich bit because of what it meant, which he replied (quite interestingly) 'I'm not bothered about the Munich, but why Taggart?'.

Seems the younger ones don't really give a stuff!

John68 has written a really long post about how the rags literally abused their own players following the disaster, how in fact the club benefitted massively from the crash in the long term but paid virtually not attention to their own. I cant find it though.

John68 if you can find it or have something you can add to this post please do so. Then it should be put in classic posts on its own. When the rags give city fans abuse about our money, they should be told the truth about the history they make such a fuss about.

I dont use the term myself, we lost one of our own there too. If I want to wind them up the "Impeccable" match usually suffices and the fact that what is happening at Liverpool wil happen to them too one day!

I don't think singing it in public with thousands of others & millions around the world watching on tv, is the same as saying it in private but I don't tend to do either. I wouldn't be as bothered about using it amongst a small group as I would singing it though for several reasons.

1) I respect the people who died in the crash & have heard personal accounts from relatives about how they were top lads, so even though my own sick sense of humour knows no bounds, I would hate to offend any living relatives of those people or freinds & aquaintences who still remember that time & are still upset by the lack of respect shown by BOTH clubs.

2) & this is more important; IT GIVES OUR ENEMIES IN THE MEDIA INCLUDING RAGS, SOMETHING TO BEAT US WITH. THEY WANT US TO SING IT. WHEN YOU SING IT, YOU ARE ALL RAG PUPPETS. IF YOU DON'T SEE THAT, WHY THE FUCK DO YOU THINK THEY DO FUCKING AEROPLANES THEMSELVES??! Everytime you sing the word, you are pleasing ten times as many rags as you're pissing off. On the whole, they don't give a fucking shite whether people sing Munich, they just use it to put us down & you help them. I despair that normally intelligent people on here are too fucking thick to realise it. Rags love it when you sing 'Munich' & hate it when you don't.

For anyone facing a crisis of conscience, use the word "munes" instead. If anyone asks, it's an acronym for

While I admire your sentiments about the lads who died (my Mum knew all of them), I long ago stopped giving even the tiniest fraction of a shit what any fucking inbred munich bastards thought of me or of my football club.

We have gone over this so many times and my position has been made very clear over the years. However the one thing I don't like about all of it is the holier-than-thou attitude that certain people have.

For me it is very simple.

If any of you want to call wooney "a loathsome, inbred, munich, scouse lardarse", then as far as I am concerned you can do. I might even join you should the mood take me.

If any of you do not want to say it, and refer to wooney as merely "a loathsome, inbred, scouse lardarse", then that's great too. You are a truly warm and decent human being, far, far better than I could ever aspire to be. Well done you.

TBH, This is a subject that I would rather stay away from and to those who seem to think that I can offer some form of definitive post on the issue..."Thanks a bunch"..."huh!" I am certainly NOT qualified to make judgements on the ethics of the matter as that is a personal thing for individuals to decide for themselves.

Historically, In 1958 most City fans stood shoulder to shoulder with the rags in a show of Mancunian solidarity, as Manchester mourned.
In the 60s, when the Kippax was formed, Munich just wasn't on the agenda. Our hatred of all things rag was just as strong and vehement and although there were songs about "Scraping them off the runway like strawberry jam". They were very low key, usually sung privately and never sung loudly by the Kippax at matches. The Munich chants derive from a much later date...but not sure when.
There can be no doubt that the rag club acted depicably towards their own. I'm not sure if all that was said about Albert Scanlon is true or if Uwe's Sky Blue Duvet has mixed up his facts but Scanlon himself publicly stated that on his return from the Munich hospital, he was expected to pay his own taxi fares and the club refused to reimburse him. There are stories of players being told to move from their club houses and when the rags contacted Duncan Edwards's family for aticles to display in their new museum, the Edwards family were scathing in their condemnation of the rags for their lack of support or interest when it was needed most.
The game advertised as the 40th anniversary, turned out to be more of a testimonial for Cantona and the 50th anniversary was commercialised and sponsored by AIG. To the disgust of rag fans.
For the rags, Munich gave them huge national and international sympathy which the rags used, with the help of a friendly media, to turn into a commercial opportunity. Sadly, most of their fans know little of the truth and few would admit it anyway.

Whether it is ethically right for our fans to use Munich as a weapon against them is an issue for each of us to decide personally. Personally, I endorse Ted's view that we are gifting them a stick with which they can beat us back. I don't think most young city fans know why they chant it, other than it winds the rags up.

I hope some of that helped.

While we are on the subject of THEM can I ask the majority why we are still singing knick-nack-fucling-paddy-whack in the South Stand? It makes me cringe everytime and it's got to the point where we sing their tune's more than our own, now that is something to worry about! And something that CAN be changed.

As for the Munich can o' worms each person must make their own decision on whether or not to use it. I prefer not to use it and don't almost all season long, however I myself have screamed out on derby day at one of their lot and called them a munich bastard (N*ville's celebration last year).
