Becoming a world famous global club

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Becoming a world famous global club

Postby the_georgian_genius » Fri Oct 15, 2010 1:19 pm

This is the ultimate aim of the club and this information i think shows how far we have to go in becoming a big global club. I think we were one of the first clubs to have an official club facebook page, then followed by Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal, the rags cottoned on about two months ago. Now seeing as Facebook has half a billion members around the world in every country, it is a great soical networking tool that provides every fan who is a fan on facebook news and behind the scenes stuff, here are the current numbers!

Barcelona - 5,405,000
Galatasary - 4,435,000
Real Madrid - 4,406,000
Man United - 3,350,000
Liverpool - 2,810,000
Chelsea - 1,942,000
Arsenal - 1,789,000
City - 186,000
Spurs - 176,000
Everton - 80,000
Aston Villa - 80,000
Newcastle - 54,000

Now seeing as ours has been up far longer than any of those clubs, just shows we have a long way to go! I'm going to enjoy the ride though!

A couple of points about this.. While you are correct in showing this as a general global appeal, it is only as representative as Facebook is, the demographic of which is limited to younger people.
I heard somewhere recently that the age demograph for City fans was dominated by 40 somethings, which basically reflects the last time we had a successful team.

City wont make inroads into increased support until we win something.. and probably really the title. My belief is that if and when that happens there will be two effects, one that a whole mass of Mancunians will suddenly come out of the woodwork and want season tickets and second that a new wave of support will start to grow both locally and globally. Only then will you see something reflected in something like Facebook.

The other point is looking at Chelsea. The average increase in attendance since Abromovich is only 1900 more than before. Yet look at the number of Facebook 'fans'.. suggesting that these supporters are not based in the UK and are only interested in Chelsea for the players they have and the winning.

but it is those younger people who buy the shirts and give the viewing figures for the games that makes this a great tool of showing our global fan base. Alot of football fans pick a team young and stick with it, as long as they are challenging and still famous.

but you are right in that the only thing that will change this for us is winning trophies, no amount of marketing or good will gestures will get us a global following, it is winning trophies which is why i said i will enjoy the ride!

Facebook is wank. FACT.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Capital letters doesn't make it so.

The mother of my future child looked me up on Facebook. I keep in touch with many on here through it also. It's a great tool.

hardly surprising, it's nearly impossible to find kebab house that doesn't have their team photo on the wall somewhere there. Always worth a laugh to put your thumb up and say 'Fenerbache' when your leaving. Just make sure he isn't slicing anything with a knife when you do it.

That list makes fantastic reading...Who would expect any club with such a piss poor record as ours, living under the shadow of the rags for so many years to have such a great following. Ahead of clubs who have all won stuff and/or been thereabouts while we wallowed inthe 3rd tier.
We have a long way to go yet but we are in front of the chasing pack.
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT

we are well on the way i believe, to becoming a global household name. The pace at which we are growing is unbelievable really, just type manchester in google and we pop up above the rags, i remember not to long ago i almost had to scroll down to find us in there.
I really think the Sheik has this thing planned out to perfection and we will be the model for succes that clubs will be trying to copy in 5 years time.

I had noticed that too BB in Google.es during my transfer-window searches for Spanish rumours. Up to a point Scum always came top, but then around January City came top and has ever since.
