Tevez due a rest, says concerned Mancini

Tevez due a rest, says concerned Mancini

Postby Mark (Blue Army) » Sat Oct 16, 2010 12:44 pm

Roberto Mancini is ready to give Captain Courageous Carlos Tevez a rare day off - and he hopes to persuade Argentina to hand his hard-working skipper an international break as well.

Tevez has toiled non-stop to lead City into second place in the Barclays Premier League table but manager Mancini is aware he will need to take a breather if the dynamic striker is to keep up that pace all winter.

The Blues now kick off another demanding three-game spell at Blackpool tomorrow, and City's boss could rest Captain Carlos for Thursday's Europa League tie with Lech Poznan before Sunday's visit by Arsenal.

Mancini said: "I will wait until Sunday morning and then I will speak with Carlos and we will decide. Out of the three games, there will probably be one for which Carlos will stay on the bench, because he needs to recover."

The Blues boss will also appeal to Argentina coach Sergio Batista to excuse Tevez from the squad he will name next month to play great rivals Brazil in a Doha friendly on November 17, five days before City's trip to Fulham.

Mancini said: "It's a problem for Carlos. Argentina don't play games in Europe, but in Japan, Australia, Brazil ... this makes it difficult for a player. Carlos arrived back on Thursday, tired. He needs to recover.

"If Argentina were to leave Carlos here sometimes, it would be better"

"They have a friendly in November. But I hope that, for that game, Carlos can stay here. It would be better for him and better for his country."

But Mancini takes with a pinch of salt the recurring theme from Tevez's exhausting international trips in which the interviewed City striker looks forward to quitting international football or even the game as a whole.

Roberto smiled: "Carlos was born to play football. I don't know if he will stay here for the next ten years or return to Argentina, but he must play football. I am not worried. I don't think he will retire now!"

Mario Balotelli's return, pencilled in for the end of the month, will ease the burden on Tevez, added the boss.

Mancini is right. It is a fucking tiring trip from Manchester to Japan and back in a few days.

Hope he won't rest him tomorrow. I only have 11 fit players for my Fantasy team, so if Tevez is out, I don't have a full team.

Bobby's right but we shouldn't be calling on Argentina to give him a rest. That's piss poor from Mancini imo. We've the most expensive squad in Premier league history and it's up to him to use it wisely.

I've already posted my views on him complaining about our injuries and how they are shaping our style of play, just get on with it Bobby, we're not in a position to complain.

You're right here mate, would Carlos need a rest if there was someone to shoulder some of the burden up front?

100 %spot on mate - There again if ADE sorted himself out he should be more than capable of replacing Tevez for a few games.

Hopefully we go with Ade and Tevez tomorrow.

Here's hoping so, should be refreshing.

Absolutely, I agree. That's up to Bobby to sort out. If he doesn't feel Ade is up to it then he should have outed him in the summer.

I'm sick and tired of hearing him explain that our style of play will improve once we are 'over our inury problems'....What problems?? We've had a few out but nothing more than an average physio list..........our squad is mint FFS, get on with it!!!!

I like Bobby and I think he brings a lot of positive qualities to the role. However, he needs to stop moaning and playing 'hard done by' as the good favour he has is running out in some quarters.

Calm down fellas, he only said Tevez needs a rest. He brought Balotelli in but he got injured. That's not complaining it's a fact. As is Ade being injured until recently. Would you rest Tevez for Jo or Santa? No, me neither.

We only need a point to stay second - stop screaming at the manager.

Well, I agree with Mancini, and I wonder about those thinking he could have given him a rest earlier because we have a top squad...Ade is just now, maybe, coming around after he decided he didn't want to stay here at the end of the summer and tried moving to Juve, or wherever else he wanted to go. So he wasn't a reliable choice earlier in the season. Balotelli got injured in his first game for us, and is not available yet. who should have Mancini played upfront, Jo who has been slaughtered since he came by City fans for his attitude (and not wrongly so, I have to say, although I would have given him some more slack especially in his first season here), or RSC who is another one who gets injured easily, and is not a world class striker anyway?

Poznan is the game for his rest surely. Especially with Arsenal on the Sunday.

I saw a different Carlos today when he scored those 2 goals...he actually celebrated with the fans and the players (instead of advertising floppy..poppy and hello mum on his shin pads or shirt)

AND LOOKED EXSTATIC ABOUT IT.

Great to see.
