AJ is..

Postby Nijinsky » Thu Oct 21, 2010 10:28 pm

Better than Conaldo was, when he 1st signed for United..

Sure he's naive and he makes the wrong choice sometimes, but he is so exciting to watch and I can only see him getting better! His run and shot onto the bar tonight was awesome! He has a cockiness, that some would see as a flaw, but is apparent in all the top players.

I'm not saying he's world class, but that his potential is frightening! I also think, he is going to be underused.. We have Silva, who is looking like a class act and an important part of our team, balotelli to come.. can we fit them all in? I honestly think that AJ will go on to be world class and the fact that I'm thinking he'll not be used enough, is indicative of the squad we have.

Such good times ahead!

If that ball had gone in after taking the piss out of the last 2 defenders then it would have gone down as one of the best goals ever in this competition.

He is class and I for one do not want him to change his game at all....very few wingers try and do what he does because they get told NOT TO DO SO.

As you were AJ ...as you were...
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"

In fairness the Tranny was 18 and AJ was 22 so bit of a difference in terms of age and development.

I agree with your general sentiment though, he is genuine class and very exciting.

He lost the ball 8 out of 10 times he had it, including leading up to their goal. Now Silva, he is a proper footballer with a magic wand for a left foot, just like Kinky had

I did think he was older, but I couldn't be bothered to look it up.. so thanks. The feeling is still the same, in that they both had potential yet neither were the finished article. That was all I meant in my comparison, I'm genuinely excited as to what he can achieve!

And the comment above.. nonsense! He had a great game, not the best on the pitch and Silva definitely had the better game, but AJ played well and excited many!

Don't wanna piss on your chips, but Ronaldo's greatest asset is his pace paired with brilliant technique. AJ doesn't have the same pace. Ronaldo was pretty pap his first years, until he learned how to control the ball in speed, which made him almost unstoppable. I hate the cunt, but so far AJ got nothing on him.

can't disagree.

however...when aj loses his greedy tendencies, i know, i know, he will be fabulous. he improves all the time and will get 100 caps for england if he stays fit. fingers crossed, he looks like the type who don't get knocks, the opposite of crocky, trevor francis, etc.

david silva is a different level for me, could be the best player in the prem in a year. that is one great buy by mancini.

You're not pissing on my chips - you just have a different opinion! AJ is far from slow, granted not as quick as Ronaldo, but he ain't that far off.. Also he wasn't pap, just not world player of the year - which is what he went to become. My only comparison is one of potential, and I was just trying to say I'm excited as to what AJ can achieve.

I obviously hope he will keep on developing and become a great City player as well. I just don't think he can reach Tranaldo's level. And all though being fast the first few yards, I think he's way off Tranaldo's pace.

Very true. Truly talented lad but just hasnt got the touch to get his crosses right. To be fair to him he does practice them a lot but even when he isn't on the move and there are no defenders around he is just very hit and miss with crosses/passes.

Yes he can be at times. I reckon Tevez gets frustrated with him at times when he is in a better position but Johnson opts to shoot.

I'm hoping this is something he will grow out of and he will become an even better player than he is already.

As someone who moans about this on a daily basis, I of course agree but I would say that amongst a plethora of poor efforts, he's produced one or two which were very close to finding their target during the last two games & they would have resulted in goals. I don't think he lacks the ability, he just needs to refine it & also to be looking to do it more often. Once he realises the full importance of an end product, he'll start to produce more imo.

i really wish that on that hit the bar had flown in. it would of been one of the great european city goals imo.

what a top class player he is. HAS to start against the gunners. him and silva can cause massive amounts of damaage to opposition.

What does it matter though? I mean, we haven't scored single Premier League goal from a header this season to my recollection. I don't think Mancini's brand of football ever was or will ever be about wingers running near the corner flag and crossing from there. That's why he has wingers on opposite sides to their "natural" flank. Because he wants them to cut in and have a crack at goal or deliver pass through ground to striker(s).
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

It matters because we'll play against many teams that will shut Johnson out completely from cutting inside and openly show him the by-line on the right wing onto his weak foot and then into the corner. Sometimes you need to simply cross or pass the ball quickly into the box. You are suggesting that it's not important he develops a crucial aspect of any wide player's game. Johnson's already had a few quiet games this season.

If he learns to cross or pass first time like David Silva does he would have not had a single quiet game and would be on the way to becoming an all time England Great. He's 23 years old and needs to develop this aspect of his game which should have being trained into him when he was under 20.

I'm only being overly critical of Johnson as I see it in him to become the best wide player in the country and learning how to cross and pass a ball into the penalty box is something that can be learned with some practice. The skills he shows beating men is something that cannot be naturally trained so he's onto a winner but lets develop him further to be the best.
