Does anyone else

Does anyone else

Postby Moonchesteri » Tue Oct 26, 2010 5:58 am

Have difficulty of finding that winning mentality?

Some press / "experts" are expecting us to, if not win the title, then come close.
Some fans obviously feel the same way but there's always the daft bloke to have that blind optimism so hardly a surprise. ;)

I also realise we are on the verge of something special, it might already be happening. This is by far the best City squad I've seen and yet I can't get completely out of that somewhat pessimistic feeling of going into games. In almost all of the games I think in my mind that this may be one of those games where we may fuck it up even tho i should be "certain" of winning and confident of 3 points!
I still have on the back of my head the Typical City -thinking - hopefully the players don't have that cos it just might cost us vital points.

We're joint 2nd and we've got players coming back, we're getting stronger. We ARE the favourites in most matches, home ot not, How can I get myself to fully realise that?!

I'm quite the opposite tbh. I'm going into every game confident of a win and even if we concede a goal i'm not bothered as i'm even more confident that we'll score again and not do the 'typical City' thing and collapse. The players we have are just too good to fail. Most importantly i have full confidence in our manager, something i haven't had since i have been watching City since the 70's.

Having never witnessed City winning a major pot I find it very difficult indeed to try to imagine what it will be like and what it will take to get there.

I think you could split City fans into 3 major groups;

Those who have seen us win stuff - Optomistic
Those of us who have never seen us win owt but were there in the dark days of the third tier - Pessimistic/Confused
Those who never saw how shite we used to be and have only started following City fairly recently - Optomistic

I reckon those of us in the 2nd group will find it the most difficult to adjust.

I'm also in the second group and try as I might...despite looking at the players we have now...I STILL can't envisage us winning a trophy...I think I will go into shock if and when it happens...last time we won anything I was 3 years old

1st group for me. I was 7 in 76 and I am glass half full especially with who we`ve got. I only wish he`d start Silva more and kolarov and Boateng up to speed i think we`ll give everyone a run for their money or lack of it depending on the opposition. HAHAHAHA.

Supporting City has always been a good ride for the manic depressives among us, even when we were winning stuff.

That reminds me, I need to do my relaxation therapy right now.

Definately the second group for me. Born in '82, so even seeing us in a semi final last year felt bizarre never mind the thought of actually winning something.

Have been waiting for us to slip up all season, after the Blackpool win and watching the implosion at the swamp last week a strange feeling of optimism began to wash over me and for the first time I started to actually believe we could challenge for the title and I went into the game against Arsenal full of confidence that we would win comfortably.

Typical City.

In the first group but developed the second group's mentality.
Can't ever imagine us winning anything even when logic dictates we may well do.

Second group. Bottling it up at the moment, scousers at work giving it the "it could be your year", rags trying to get me into bets on who will finish higher. Mantra is "we'll see where we are after crimbo". Reality is I'm excited a fuck, god knows where we will end up but its gonna be a wild ride.

We can and will do it. It's just a matter of when. I'm loving being in a title race.

This is a lot easier than the old relegAtion battles.

Very much in the second group, I was born in '84 so my earliest City memories are the time of Peter Reid, David White, Rick Holdon etc. So I find myself struggling to be optimistic because those god awful days of Lincoln and Grimsby don't actually seem that long ago, I am trying to adjust though, I still fear for us on derby day even though in recent years things have improved massively. On the day of the last Maine Road derby I literally had no idea what to do with myself, it was the most surreal thing for me to see City beat United.

And then theres Crossan!! (only messing t'old chap!)

In the 2nd group for me Lee, though have to say this season I have been a lot more optomistic going into games. Probably the games that should walk overs for us, the Blackburns, Wigans and Stokes. Before I was very pessimistic about these games and had more optomism about the derby / Arse / Chelski.
