Watching the Malcolm Allison video got me thinking about how much I miss Maine Road, how it felt like home, and its probably going to take a generation, or some proper fucking success before COMMS feels like a proper home. Don't get me wrong, its slowly becoming homely, but I'm sure you all know what I mean.
The big question on my mind is, with Mansour taking over that late that summer, would we have:
1) stayed in Moss Side and developed the stadium and regenerated the area?
2) bought a new plot of land and built something from scratch,
3) been more involved with the council and pumped some funds in to have made COMMS bigger for us???
Gazza signed for Everton, Michael Owen was king of the world, Hasselbaink was knocking them in for fun, Viduka, Phillips, Henry, Wiltord, Kewell, Heskey were all staring. Would we have signed any of them back then with limitless funds?,
Started the relegation season with Joe Royle as manager, we finished 18th , 8 points from safety. Royle was sacked, Keegan came in 3 days later, and everyone kind of forgot about relegation and starting getting excited about the next season.
But what the fuck would have happened with countless millions invested back then. The next season Scum bought Van horseface and Veron, Shearer was knocking them in, Henry, Pires, Berdkamp etc etc
Our was the squad:
