Michael Johnson back in full City training

Michael Johnson back in full City training

Postby johnno » Thu Oct 28, 2010 8:58 am

Michael Johnson is hoping to bring two years of misery to an end by returning to full contact training today.

The 22-year-old midfielder has suffered a nightmare run of injury problems which have seen him appear just twice, both as a substitute, since picking up an abdominal injury in September 2008.

Roberto Mancini has shown faith in the Academy product, including him in his 25-man Premier League squad.

And in the summer, the Urmston-born England Under-21 international was said to be just two weeks behind the rest of the squad.

Having suffered hamstring trouble and a double hernia operation before developing the abdominal trouble, Johnson finally got himself fit at a similar stage of last season.

City fans gave him a rousing reception when he came on as a sub in a 3-1 win over West Ham, and the following month he scored a spectacular goal after another substitute appearance in the Carling Cup against Scunthorpe.

Last December he wrecked cruciate ligaments in his knee during training, bringing his season to a premature end.

There were doubts about his future after such a catalogue of problems, but Johnson’s attitude over the summer and during the pre-season tour of the USA impressed Mancini.

But Johnson had yet ANOTHER setback a fortnight ago when he injured a toe, and now faces a few weeks until he can get match fit.

Now City are considering giving him a run-out in reserve matches to top up his fitness

Interesting after what Platt told me yesterday and especially bearing in mind he was in full contact training for quite a while before the last international break. Platt definitely gave me the impression that we wouldn't be seeing MJ soon in a reserve outing.
I will see today if he is out again!

Good thing considering he occupies a spot in both the european and league list.

Funny how Bellamy couldn't get on either but a guy who has played 4 games in 2½ years can.

well, you don't hear johno running his gob to all and sundry, and when he does say something it's generally how thankful he is for the support of city and how much he wants to come back for the club. strange.

Great news about Johnno. Been a bit worried about him but whether he's playing reserve games now or in a month, this certainly indicates that they're not hiding any big setbacks from us & that he's still genuinely on the road to recovery.

Mate, you just got a fantastic run for your money, and I'm disappointed you ended it there.

Do you know, I'm getting to the point where I don't actually give a monkey's about Johnno. He's there, he's not; he's there, he's not! Everytime we hear some good news about him it is closely followed by bad.

Is he/will he be as good as we all expect him to be when he finally gets on the pitch, I'm not too sure?

It's all down to the one thing imo; fitness. If he gets fully fit he'll be a teriffic footballer because he's already shown he has excellent technique & in the way that he linked up with Elano etc, that he has the most important asset which many players miss; a brain.

Good news if true - Agent Higginbottom is on the case though so we'll see.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOW

Now we will win the league and the Champions league next year with him back. I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that he will walk straight into our first team and score 35 goals this season while getting 1 MILLION assists and we wont concede a single goal with him in the team.

OR

Who gives a shit he is wank.

Take your pick. One of them is true.
