When/What was this shirt?

Postby Alioune DVToure » Thu Nov 11, 2010 10:23 pm

Really bugging me. It's vaguely familiar but I can't remember when it's from. Was it a third shirt during the 1997/98 season? It's Murtaz Shelia in the picture (who we signed in 1998) but by 98/99 we had the famous Wembley strip as our 3rd shirt. By the season after that we were wearing Le Coq Sportif.

Does anyone own one?

Not familiar that one. I bloody loved Shelia though, he was massive. Thought he was underrated and better than some of the shite we had back then.

I *think* it was worn once in a game against QPR in Division One in 1997/98. I've seen pics of Michael Brown wearing one as well.

There was a match worn number 14 one going on eBay a while and it sold for hundreds. The only sets ever made were for players so they're like gold dust.

Never fit though mate. Our Georgian contingent were made of glass.

Mikhail Khavelashllanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogochvili must've played about 15 minutes of foootball for us.

Don't remeber the shirt but I remember the player! Murtaz was an absolute beast. But they were all made of glass! Think Murtaz and Kakhaber Tskhadadze had their careers ended at City.

At one point I remember them forming a potent back three with Gerard Wiekens.

Don't think we had a better centre back than these pair until Andy Morrisson signed and single handedly pulled us up by the scruff of our necks intothe playoffs.

What a distant memory that all is now! Instead we're all bitchin' about how crap our £25m players are!

3rd kit, worn for a few games and was expected to be the away strip for the following season.

It's on this website - which is pretty good btw. Not much to say about it though other than the year and 'special':

I remember playing Championship Manager 2 (i think) and getting relegated to div 1 with city, he went on to score 40 goals in a season in div 1.

Don't remember anything of him in real life though.

Speaking of bad goal keeper shirts, I remember owning the following kit when I was a young lad, I thought it was brilliant at the time, despite it clashing horrifically with my hair. I think Chelsea or QPR had the same kit as well didn't they?

He definitely did score against them. Not sure if it was his debut, but I think I remember it being in front of the Platt lane. Was it the one we lost 3-2 in the relegation season ('95/'96) when Rosler did the cupped ear thing to Ball?

I think the first time we played in Yellow was away at Arsenal about 20 years ago. I seem to remember that the sponsor logo and City badge had pretty much fallen off most of them by the end of the game.

I heard a story on the way back that our kits hadn't turned up at Highbury for some reason so we had to buy a load of stuff from a local sports shop and try to iron on the various badges and logos.
