People speak as if we are some relentless, inexorable machine grinding out 1-0 victories in every game on our unstoppable march to silverware/the CL.
This is not true. Sometime we fit this description, but more often than not we fuck it up and look limp, bereft of ideas and somewhat uninterested. This is not to say Mancini will not get it right, and maybe even get it right soon, it is just that right he is still making mistakes and so are the team.
Ted Hughes wrote:You could be right. We could become a very good attacking team, playing 3 up front & scoring lots of goals. That wouldn't surprise me as Bob has already tried it several times. He's tried lots of things. Some have worked well, some have failed miserably. What they haven't been under any circumstances is a well oiled tactical master plan to win each game 1-0, like the utter bollox people have said on here that gets trawled out every time we're shit.
We've had a mix & match of different tactical experiments often changing game by game, not a fucking divine plan. Wednesday was one, it was crap, today will probably be another & we'll find out if it's brilliant, crap or in between. All of you who think Mancini's been working to one plan should phone up Mickey Quinn, he'll agree but unfortunately he doesn't like it. You can discuss the imaginary plan with him & argue the toss whilst the rest of us discuss the actual team & formation on the pitch which changes almost every game.

Well it's doing my head in. I actually like the Italian git quite a lot & have just as many good things as bad things to say about him but we have a fantastic squad now & we should be more or less where we are, it's not some kind of miracle that can only be achieved by some fantastic tactical revolution that we're all to thick to understand. The miracle will be what happens when it comes together, not what happens now, which is very up & down. Wed was a definite down. Today may be much different. If it is I'll be praising him for it. If he plays a bunch of kids in the back 4 & we get beat , I'll be slagging him off. Someone then would tell me a good reason for him doing it.

Perhaps some who are arguing with Ted are ignoring his point rather than missing it. Im not sure many are suggesting we have a plan to get 1-0's every game or that we are doing that.Ted Hughes wrote:

the blue bit sums up what i am arguing with and it is what is colouring the whole of Ted's arguments at the moment. It isn't that Ted isn't right about the various tactical, player changes that have been spurious at best, he is spot on imo on the whole.
The argument if there is one is about what we should be expecting at this point with Mancini, there are big differences of opinion there and i suppose that will carry on. The basic sentiment that we should be where we intend to be already, basically comes out as those who think that are frustrated at the play and wont accept an argument that it still needs time, those that do not think we should be already there, tend to take in the extenuating circumstances more and sound like they are offering excuses, when they are not necessarily doing so.
Repeat the whole discussion is based around if we should be the real deal already.
No, its the style of football we're playing right now and have been for some time. IF that changes, I'm sure we'll all be singing his name in unison.

Wierdly the game kind of proves both sides of the discussion and offers no solution!! Ha Ha
