Classic question's designed for a purpose - to prove a point. Yet if you asked yourself a question to the effect - 'Are we playing in a manner that I would like to see?' as was a couple of month's back, then that question may have a massive impact on what the rest of the answer's may be. It's all about perception.

However good we are playing now. Against United we were spineless and gutless and it was one of the most pathetic city displays i've ever seen. Against Birmingham, it was utter madness to take Tevez off when we needed a goal.

I stand by what I said then.

Of course, 18.
I will still always be annoyed with the way we played United. Watching our players paralysed with fear and playing for a draw. Having seen sides with Vassel and Sibierski stick 4 past United in the past, to sit back and not even attempt to win the game was disgraceful.

I would happily have binned Bobby, even though I like him. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm happy enough to admit what I thought at the time. And why.
I still think he has a helluva lot to prove and fear that come the big moment he will disappear back inside himself. I still think he needs to be more adventurous at home and that caution has cost us points.
In the main though I'm very much happier than I was. I want to see at least FIVE attack minded players for home fixtures against teams who don't have much ambition.
City and sniffing knickers.
Come on Blues.

Ah. You were spared the stuff from the late 90s and the mid 80s then. Good on you, mate. It cheers me to see a whole generation of Blues who do not (and hopefully never will) have the experience of City being absolutely fucking rank week-in week-out.

It makes me laugh when you talk about yaya toure, the guy has never been attacked minded in his life, he is a defensive midfelder who can actually play football.

Im sorry to say it but we have bought too many midfield players that are defensive minded, play them all together and you willl get a boring game.

I didnt mention mancini so you cant really say i was calling him, i was defending yaya because i knew he would come good. I didnt think he would come good as an attacking midfielder though.

Im 30 years older than you & I agree with every word. We could have fucking humilliated them & really dented their confidence if we'd played with the attacking attitude we are doing now rather than playing like a Championship side in the FA Cup.

Many of us had similar thoughts about Hughes but he wasn't given that time. Maybe had he been allowed to develop his squad with a similar amount of money, someone may have been adding yours and Antti's quotes to a similar thread and having a chuckle at you mate.
Just as I wasn't overly devastated after the Everton game, I'm not overly triumphal tonight. The Villa team we beat is a very poor one which seems to be imploding. There will be bigger tests for us. Happy with the win...ready for the next challenge....Bring on Blackpool and Arsenal.

I meant what I said at the time because we really were dire to watch (regardless of results) and my 'light the blue touch paper and stand well back' comment certainly wasn't knee jerk.

I've made fun of myself on these boards since then though, so I have no problem with you taking the piss out of me.

Besides .... I think Roberto read what I said because the upswing came about virtually immediately :-p

Nothing the matter with dragging up a few posts like this. I did the same with Bellamy. If you've made a cock of yourself just hold your hands up, have a laugh, get a life. Funny thing is most of these posts are from when there were obvious signs of improvement, and when we were obviously still 'gelling' - dreaded word - and hadn't got round to the chapter on going forward.

I still think to criticise us restricting Scum to a 0-0 with no chances is absolute insanity or of course, as Tokyo points out, youth!

Brilliant thread KK. When the original thread was first posted I thought it was a joke. I was then astonished to see it run for several pages with loads from this board jumping on the bandwaggon and who seemingly would have booted him out of the door straight away. The rest were, as usual, pleading for patience.

Thank fuck these people don't run the club.

A couple of absolute gems. (I won't name names)..............................

Well let me tell you, I'd prefer to see Sam fucking Allardyce in charge right at this moment - that's how bad it's getting and you all need to wake up to it.

and in light of yesterday......(with Tevez on the bench and the iminent signing of Dzeko).........

He has put all his eggs in one basket(Balotelli) and that is the problem.

I believe we will do that at OT; we know we are strong away from home and if we keep these results coming I can see us going there with a mighty belief in our strength, and go for it from the start.

It was much more important that we didn't lose than take the gamble. United didn't attack either and this shows the respect they now have for us. This argument has been done to death and will only be settled on 12th Feb at OT. Then I fully expect them to come at us and I fully expect us to nick it.

Rubbish. I expect City to attempt to win every game and attack the opponents, especially at home. It was such a good opportunity to beat them. We have beaten far, far better United sides in the past with much worse teams.

United did attack, but they had no luck as we had 11 men behind the ball. We were scared of them. We should have pushed them right up the pitch, got right in their faces and thrown bodies forward in the attack.

Even if we beat United at OT, it makes no difference to the game in November. We bottled it, fact.

This. Spot on as usual.
Plus: not beating the Goluns - even considering a very odd day at the park - was the evidence we are still a work with important progress to do.
