Charlie Adam

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Charlie Adam

Villa and Brum taking the piss valuing this guy at £2.5 then £3.5m. I don't always agree with Mad Dog Holloway but I reckon it is just a matter of time before one of the top clubs takes a punt on him. I dunno if he would ever get a game at city but he has had an awesome season. He is the heart and soul of Blackpool this season and they must be shitting bricks about him leaving.

I suppose the problem is that you would have to set up in a similar way to Blackpool to get the best out of him. With the patient passing game that Mancini is developing, Adam might not fit at City but I could imagine him spraying balls to Johnson and Silva if a more expansive game were needed.

He will either be a one season wonder or someone will get a bargain!

Absolutely no way should we even consider signing him. He is having a great season and credit to him but we are looking for world class players. He is nothing of sort.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I have to agree with this. Adam is a great player for Blackpool but not the sort of player we should be buying.

The £3.5M valuation is a piss-take though, with his ability and at his age I reckon he must be worth at least double that.

Holloway's right to say they are taking the piss. Villa et al are trying to use their name to get the player to want to move whilst offering pittance to Blackpool believing they will snatch their hands off for a couple of mil. What they fail to recognise is that Blackpool are in a far better position and, at this current time, stand more chance of surviving in the Prem.

As for us, I do like the way he instantly sees a run and then pings the ball into space. He could do a job for us but I doubt he would fit in seemlessly into our tactics and formations. He's still young though and if he can carry on in his current vein for a season or 2, he'll make a very decent Prem player.

In short, I'd have him if he continues to prove.

The first 11 should be as close to world class (debatable terminology) as possible, but you can't expect the rest of the squad to be. If we've got a 'world class' player who's happy to sit on the bench 90% of the time, I'd have to question their mentality and drive.

If you look at the rest of the top 5, they have a quality first 11, a couple of decent back ups, mainly to allow a change in formation and then kids or poorer players. We can't expect to be any different if we are going to have a balanced, happy(ish) squad. The idea that we could have a Kaka as back up to Silva is madness, but a lot of people seem to be falling into that trap.

Haven't seen enough of Charlie Adam to comment on whether he's good enough or not, but we need some players in the squad who you could rely on if needed even though they wouldn't be in your first choice 11 for the big games.

Pienaar would be a good shout as back up.

Whilst I agree with you in theory, world class players don't like sitting on the bench.

This keeps cropping up - we need someone who can come in and "do a job" if one of our players is out, which means for the most part, they are back up players.

Mancini should mention him in a presser and watch the valuation go up to £15 million.

I'm always wary of these players though. They may look great in a newly promoted team, but can they cut it at a higher level. I understand the point some others have made that we need good back-ups, but I think half a season is too early to judge whether he's good enough for the City squad. Look at Steve Sidwell - he was great at Reading, but then looked massively out of depth at Chelsea, even as a back-up.

Pienaar, on the other hand, would be the sort of player who could fit into our squad. A very good player with Prem experience. If we could get him on a free in the summer, that would be a great bit of business, or even a small fee now. It would have the added bonus of pissing Moyes off too!

Yeah, well, we are looking to ship off SWP for example. He hasn't been exactly pulling any trees recently but he is much better footballer than Charlie Adam. Now I'm not looking to take anything away from the lad. Every time I've seen him this season he has shown great spirit and some good touches but he is not, and I doubt he will ever be, kind of talent that you'd have in Club that is aiming for glabal domination. Bench or not.

I DO get the point you are trying to make AND we need some homegrown players (this is interesting by the way, would he count in that quota as he was trained in Scotland and is Scottish?) but we need someone better than him. Personally I'd keep on stealing them from Academies and breed them ourselves.

What on earth? You could see last season that Charlie Adam made Blackpool tick, and that he would be a big hit in the Premier League. He IS a big hit in the PL and as even Taggart says he's one of the best players in the league.

As we've only got Silva to play these 'unlocking' passes, yet Charlie Adam also does it for a pastime, I cant see how anyone wouldn't want him. He oozes class.

Or is it just because he plays for Blackpool?

SWP on the other hand, dismissing any emotional attachments, is now a very, very poor player who will be lucky to hold down a place in the Championship from now on. He cant even make himself tick!

Eh? Because he plays for Blackpool??? Why would it be because of that????? Like I said, credit to him for having a fine season, he is just not good enough and has little potential imo to be much better than he is now.

Talking about unlocking passes:

1752 minutes 4 goals, 8 assists
1615 minutes 3 goals, 4 assists

Guess which one is SWP last season and Adam this season. Grass always seems to be greener on the other side of the fence.

CR7. I like it. Although I would prefer EDD19. Obviously.
