Emmanuel Adebayor is the most recent player to sign for Real Madrid. The 26-year old is already a Premier League veteran and an icon of his native Togo. It isn’t the first time that the 2008 African Player of the Year joins a team in the winter transfer market. He signed for Arsenal in January 2006 and in only 21 minutes of his first match with the Gunners scored his first goal. Adebayor is tall and strong and possesses the speed and talent that the Santiago Bernabeu has grown accustom to watching.

After a brief stint with Sporting Club de Lome in Togo, Adebayor joined France’s Metz in 1999. The striker needed only two years of youth football before receiving the nod to join the first team in 2001. Over the course of his first two seasons in Ligue 1 football, Adebayor caught the eye of Monaco scouts and in 2003 he signed with the Monegasque side. In only his first season, the Red and Whites reached the Champions League final but lost to Porto, then coached by Jose Mourinho. Two and half seasons later, Adebayor was on his way to England to play for Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger new he had a special player in Adebayor, who needed only 21 minutes to score his first goal for the Gunners and who would go on to score 81 goals in England. In his first year in the Premier League, he also led Arsenal to their second ever Champions League final and scored four goals in the ten UCL matches played.

Not only did Adebayor score 62 goals in his three and a half seasons with Arsenal, he also became the go-to guy on a team that stood out for its quality football. In doing so, the Togo international was named the 2008 African Player of the Year.

In the summer of 2009, Adebayor made the switch to Manchester City, where he scored 14 goals in his first season and has five goals in 12 matches played during the current campaign.

Although he has already retired from international football since his team’s bus came under deadly attack during the 2010 African Cup of Nations, Adebayor can be attributed with helping Togo reach World Cup 2006, the first final ever for the small African nation.

He can turn out to be Higuaín's competition for 1st team spot though I don't think we are gonna make the deal permanent. Another good thing about this transfer is it will motivate Benzema. All in all an excellent piece of business at least for us and many thanks to Man City.

€2M for the deal and another €14M agreed for a possible transfer according to 'AS' who are very reliable and were the 1st to announce it. Initially City wanted €20M but accepted €14M and Real Madrid to pay his full wages.

Adebayor scored 19 goals in 36 league and cup starts for the Blues

Pretty impressive.

Adios Ade, will score plenty for Madrid imo.

Brilliant footballer, had at least two seasons, one with Arsenal, one with MCFC, where he had a good goals-per-game record. But Wenger doesn't let players go for no good reason (remember him letting City have David Seaman?) and Mancini had a long enough look to know he's not right for the team he's building. Look forward to Vinnie Kompany owning him in the European Cup final in 2012.

I know someone who can play on the left of a forward 3, and we're already paying his wages ;-)

Hope this means a young guy in... pref. Lukaku or Aguero:-)

I know we can't have Lukaku as backup untill next season but think we'll be allright untill then with silva/Johnson etc. to play one/two of the guys in our 433. But long term we need another out and out striker IMO.

Cheerio Ade, really enjoyed watching you in that Arsenal game and at times you have been unplayable. It's a shame it hasn't worked out.

Don't be suprised if Ade doesn't go in the Summer. Rumours abound that the Real hierachy are sick of Mourinho issuing ultimatums and threatening to leave, and are looking at replacements, on a "just in case" basis.

Berbatov wins golden boot, spends following season on the bench while his team loses title on goal difference. Well played, Fergie.

So the rumour of Ade to Real and Kaka to City in a loan swap deal is still on?

I like Ade, has a good scoring record for us and throughout his career. I feel the shooting incident has knocked him but if anyone can get into his head and get him hungry again then it's Mourinho. A good deal for all concerned.

Glad he's gone out on loan - a bad influence. He played well for us for the first half a dozen games and after that was average and only played when he felt like it. Too often didn't want to put the work rate in when we didn't have the ball, rarely won a header when it was played up to him.

As for Robinho and Bellamy who have been mentioned in this thread - Robinho had terrific ability but doesn't have the correct attitude and was mentally weak.

Bellamy- did superbly well for us last season and would have liked him to still be in the squad. Clearly there were issues between him and Mancini but to be fair the manager didn't cut his nose off to spite his face as his picked Bellamy all the way through from Jan last season. Perhaps he was let go to Cardiff as Bellamy could only play once a week and would want to play games rather than be a squad player.

I still wonder wtf Adebayor has done to fall behind Jo in the pecking order... did he shag Mancini's wife and the baby is his or what?

I don't know but Mancini is a very good manager and is doing well with us so i'll back his judgement 100%.

Perhaps, and I am only guessing, Jo works harder in training, shows the correct attitude to doing a shift for the team out of position on the left-hand side than Adebayor has ever done. I mean even when Adebayor has had his opportunities playing in his correct position he didn't put the effort, workrate and display the attitude - which for a player of his ability is unforgivable.

Also the fact that no other club wants to sign Jo maybe doesn't help! :) Could it be Mancini is trying to put him in the shop window. Is quite noticeable that Jo never starts at Eastlands - only away matches.
