Beeks. I take your point but RSC wasn't being sold as our great hope to replace our marquee player and a world superstar. It is a bit embarrassing in my view.

Of course in the long term he may go on to be a great success and perhaps England's centre forward for years.

I can honestly say it's one of the most insane transfers in the history of football. If not THE most insane. I'm still yet to come in terms with th fact that they parted with that much money for Carroll. He is good promising player but hardly once in a decade talent. For that sort of money you should be talking about one of the top 10 players in the world. Utter madness.

And yeah, we have had our fuck ups but 35 million. Jesus.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

He has the potential to be a great player but equally the potential to end up in prison/ the blue square league - £35m is a hell of a bet!

Both fees are as outrageous as each other imo. 50 mil for a serial hospital case who hasn't played a decent 90 mins for a year or more is fucking unbelievable.

I thik whilst we can all agree the money spent is madness it had to be done for two reasons.

1 - Torres is a big loss and they really do need squad reinforcements, they cannotwait until the summer. I know they signed Suerez as well, but they have a shit squad and need to bring in more than they send out quality wise.

2 - Probably the most important thing right now for LFC after this season and last is showing some intent, both to the squad still there and the supporters. These owners were losing everyone and now even if Carroll isn't a massivie instant success, they can at least say they didin't just pocket the cash, they tried to build the squad.
Tracking back is overrated.

In reality with the torres money they have bought 2 forwards for round about 7million not bad business really when you look at it in those terms.

Still injured from falling off that barstool at 5am then?

At least it'll be good business for the bars of central Liverpool. Maybe they put up some sponsor money?

But the replacements are:
1. An unproven striker with 5 months Prem experience, and with the potential to end up in prison in the next year or so.
2. A striker who has scored goals in the Dutch league...like Dirk Kuyt, Mateja Kezman and Alfonso Alves did.

It's not exactly like for like.

Admittedly it could work out for them, but with the fees they paid, it's a hell of a risk.

Or...
1. Potentially the best centreforward since Shearer at a young age
2. A striker who scored goals in the Duth league...like Ruud van Nistlerooy, Dennis Bergkamp, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink did.
