Midfielder De Jong named in Dutch squad for Austria game

EINDHOVEN, Netherlands, Feb 4 (Reuters) - Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk recalled Nigel de Jong in a 22-man squad for the friendly against Austria on Wednesday in Eindhoven.

De Jong was dropped from the squad in October last year after the Manchester City midfielder’s tackle left Hatem Ben Arfa with a broken leg in a Premier League game.

Goalkeepers: Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax Amsterdam), Michel Vorm (Utrecht)

Defenders: Urby Emanuelson (AC Milan), John Heitinga (Everton), Erik Pieters (PSV Eindhoven), Gregory van der Wiel (Ajax Amsterdam), Peter Wisgerhof (Twente Enschede), Joris Mathijsen (Hamburg SV)

Midfielders: Ibrahim Afellay (Barcelona), Mark van Bommel (AC Milan), Theo Janssen (Twente Enschede), Hedwiges Maduro (Valencia), Wesley Sneijder (Inter Milan), Rafael van der Vaart (Tottenham Hotspur), Nigel de Jong (Manchester City), Kevin Strootman (Utrecht)

Forwards: Klaas Jan Huntelaar (Schalke 04), Dirk Kuyt (Liverpool), Jeremain Lens (PSV Eindhoven), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Ruud van Nistelrooy (SV Hamburg), Eljero Elia (Hamburg SV)

Bout time that Dutch manager got his brain engaged.

I'll be disappointed if Nige does accept to be honest.

as will i...he should find a way to play for some other fucked up country that he might have some tinge of nationality around in his background instead.

he's a proud man tho...he won't say no because he's old school, and hard as nails. Love that cunt. Best thing Sparky ever did bringing him here. Him and Kompany...if i ever met Hughes i'd shake his hand and thank him for those two buys. Foundational. Also, haven't seen any of Mancini's buys make the same impact yet, have we? Strange. Hadn't thought of that tbh. Silva and Balo should by this time next year i hope. And Jayko as well.

cheers

And then you should stomp on his head for buying Jo.

he didn't buy Jo. that was a bag full of money delivered at a train station locker for Frank to have some walking around money while his assets were frozen. i don't believe it was genuine at all. Do you? I'm not even joking.

cheers
