Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

players having Facebook and twitter

Postby blue wine » Tue Feb 08, 2011 8:36 am

what do u think? should the players be banned from using FB and Twitter to express there feelings on a match etc.?

this is what jack wilshere (mario: "who") said after the 4-4 draw on twitter:

"Inconsistent refereing needs to stop.its killing the game.if Diaby goes..whats the difference between that and Nolan on our keeper!?? #Joke!"

he will be fined for that, but i dont see anything wrong with that.

They have the same right to be on there as anyone else, I can uderstand though if their clubs had a policy that doesn't allow them to post on social networking sites, I have quite a lot of friends who are Teachers and most of them are told not to go on social networks , there again I know Teachers who do post on them. Footballers like the rest of us have feelings and if they want to express their views I don't see why they shouldn't.

I like it and actively encourage it. I love reading players' tweets. Especially the ones that show they have a passion for the game.

Wilshere's attitude is great. I'd love it if I was an Arsenal fan - he constantly talks to Sczesny, Cesc, Nasri and RVP on twitter and it's genuinely quite endearing and does show that they all get on well. I also love it when he posts pictures of them all sat about playing Fifa in their hotel rooms etc. Just makes them seem normal and human like the rest of us. I like that.........

Gotta admit that that's quite amusing? Just reminds me of me and my mates on any other night being normal lads.

I think Twitter's a great thing - get the players to mingle with the fans. Get them to have opinions. Also, get referees on twitter, managers! Everyone! The more opinions the better.

Also, Wilshere whilst watching the old firm derby...

as long as its not sexist or racist or any of that stuff, where they would obviously need to be careful, and if the comments are fair, like wiltsheres were, I think its a good idea, they are human after all - slanderous comments like fabregas is allaged to have made by everton are obviously un-acceptable but I don't really see why publically questioning the decision of a referee is considered a taboo subject for anyone

Best comment on it by a footballer was Jay Bothroyd's.

Managers have to sort their acts out first before they preach to players. Have you read the filth that TheBig_Sam spouts on Twitter?

I'll tell him the difference, their keeper was trying to waste time thus provoked both Barton and Nolan's reactions. Both got booked for it, end of. Or maybe he wanted his keeper sent off too?

No, I'm not there either; I'm on facebook, though.

As for the pic, Fabregas' dumb look there is priceless!!

What absolute bollox!

Facebook and Twitter - no matter how much you try to make them private- are public forums.

If I went on one of them and slagged off my boss or a work colleague I'd expect to be sacked or disciplined.

Footballers aren't immune from 'normality'.

Well yeah, obviously, but that's not what this about. And most footballers don't do that.

If they use twitter and slag off their bosses they do get in trouble - ask Darren Bent or David Bentley. Or if they bring the game into disrepute they get into trouble once again - see Ryan Babel.

Most don't though - they just offer fair enough opinions and have a laugh chatting to the fans.

This site has a Twitter page, it's brilliant, follow it!

I like players airing their views but I can see why they can get in trouble over it. If I say a referee is bent nobody can do anything about it but if a player says it they are bringing the game into disrepute. It doesn't matter what platform they are using to make their point.
