I suppose he is making defamatory personal statements about Baconface. Whilst it's not work based, it still brings the club into disrepute and therefore they are within their rights to take action, which technically speaking is gross misconduct.

Bit different though when its football banter. Warn him, tell him never to do it again, and i'm sure if he respects his job everyone moves on and learns from it. Dismissal does seem to be an over-reaction and maybe he has been made an example of to keep GMP happy
