He did not try that though. He tried to get a clean hit with his foot, not with his shin. Therefore that is a bit lucky.
I do agree that he did fantastically well to hit the target whilst upside down but let's be honest, he did not try to hit it with his shin.

Superb goal though.

The fact it came off his shin means fuck all.
If you want to disect every goal in the same manner, you could come to the same conclusion - of course most efforts end up in the stands, but this one didn't.

Of course it means. It means a great deal what he tried to do when you consider giving goal a title of "the greatest goal ..." Like I said above, he got lucky with it (he tried something else!) and imo a goal like that can not be "greatest goal". Fantastic goal it was, absolutely fantastic...
And if it was a clean strike, it is right up there. Then it is possibly the greatest goal the prem has sene.

I've dreamed yesterday night of an early Cup final against Shrek and his dirty company: don't tell anybody here how it would be finished! :)
From Torino, Italia to Manchester, Lancashire this City is always our City!

I don't care if he hit it with his ass, it was a brilliant goal, absolutely amazing. I cannot believe the OP is actually criticizing it was his shin (maybe it would be funny if he were hitting a sitter into the net, but consider the fact he was upside down at the time FFS). Last time I checked a goal is a goal no matter how you hit. I would surely take several off of Silva's back.

Look Kompany fell, so you cannot really fault anyone outside of the groundsmen for the poor marking.

I am livid we lost, but it is so much better to lose to a classic once-in-a-season type goal by a twat like Rooney, than in Fergie time to a goal by a twat like Owen.

He meant to go upside down. He meant to connect with the cross. He meant to score. He scored.

End of.

i think you and a few others are missing my point completely. it's being talked of as a "wonder goal" when in reality it was a very good attempt that got lucky. nani's goal was far better technically in my book.

Well Nani's goal was technically solid, but similar goals are happen quite common. I am not really certain there is a proper technique for scoring on a bicycle since no two are the same (unlike a ball at feet like Nani's).

Some nob on Sky Sports (?Ed Chamberlain?) claimed the goal was "one of the greatest sporting moments".

Idiot.

Can't believe anyone on here is actually foolish enough to talk that goal down. If you're pissed off about it just don't talk about it at all because claiming it was a slice of luck DOES make us look bitter.

Lucky? What was he trying to do, fucking head it???

We controlled the game, had our chances and didn't take them. They won the game with a goal that wasn't even a chance. End of.

not talking down the goal - talking down the reaction by some that it was a wonder goal. i could rattle off 5 or 6 from dennis bergkamp alone that were far better.

Exactly. People are getting fooled by the "beauty" of the overhead kick. It was spectacular, but hardly ingenious. Good timing though.

Greatest goal in the history of the Premier League? You're havin a laugh.

Good God !

If a City player had done what Rooney did you'd all be creaming on it.

Be men and face the truth. It WAS a great goal ..... and at least they showed us the common decency of scoring it in 'normal' time for a change.

correct me if I'm wrong, but this is only the second "cracker" scored against us. The first was by Juve at home. The rest have been tap ins, set pieces and mistakes by us.
