Five home games to define the season

Of course the 4th one is rather dependent on the first, and it may be 6 games if we are home first to Kiev.

But now every 'expert' has settled down again to regard us as 'inexperienced', 'not the finished article', 'poor away', 'poor at home' or whatever else, after a few dodgy results, now is the time to make a big statement that we are still in with a big shout at 2 cups and the PL.

There is no reason why we shouldn't sweep everything before us now - this is the same team that anihilated the likes of Fulham away etc, with Dzeko added. Mario is back, at least for a bit. So how about some optimistic predictions?:

Notts Co - 3-0
Aris - 2-0
Fulham - 4-1
Aston V - 1-0
Wigan - 4-0

It's not unreasonable at all.

It doesn't stop there of course though. Winning the two PL games could put Chelsea under huge pressure but also, a favourable outcome in today's draw could see the Wembley archway looming large. In recent years, between being knocked out by the likes of rags etc, we've had opportunities where our run to a cup final could have been down to winning against mainly beatable teams & just one game against a top side. We've then fucked up by losing to poor or middling teams & watched others in cup finals when it could easily have been us. We'll be doing it next week for the League Cup final. That is 'typical City'.

Let's make sure we're not sat at home watching Richard Dunne on tv in May.

regardless of the scores, they're all winnable games and we SHOULD win everyone.

To get knocked out of either cup against that opposition, at home, will be embarassing.

In the league, we need to keep winning to keep spurs and chelsea at bay.

They don't define the season at all for me UNLESS we lose one of them! We should win them all,we are expected to win them all and I think we will win them all.

To be fair though every bunch of 5 or 6 games has been said to define the season and nothing changes from now on to the end.Is it the "easy" games like these which really define the season or the tougher ones like Kiev,the FA Cup 1/4 final,Chelsea and Liverpool away? I really only care about the next game and winning that one.

Otherwise we'll prob see the same thing we've seen for some time now... good posession and slow-walking it into offence just to cross it when Dzeko is on the bench and not cross it but pass it away when he is on the field.

The bottom line for me is; due to not getting the whole team settled, as in no attack sorted out for the bulk of it, then we are looking at the season as 'gaining experience' and whatever bonuses come along with that. Logic might suggest that from now on we should improve. If we can get on a run then it might settle us into a flow for the rest of the season. The timing would be still good if not a bit late.
In terms of the next 5 or 6 games or whatever, the truth is that with the heightened expectation for the team every game has been crucial from the word go. Some will look back and see the Stoke game, the Villa game etc as what ifs. Fighting to be in the top slots or topping the league is pretty much the same shit.. it all comes down to how many slip ups occur beyond what is acceptable.. which is not a lot. We have already had our quota in the league so any more and they will be season defining moments.

Partly why I started this thread was because I felt 5 home games in a row (or would it be six with Kiev, help me out here?) with our current excellent home form would make a statement and give us the base and the confidence to get back our previously-good away form. This should allow us to push on our league form.

If we beat Villa it could actually be six or seven home games in a row, depending on this Kiev thing - were we first out the hat?

So come on the lads, nice professional 3-0 against Aris please.
