Should i stay or should i go now........

Postby Sister of fu » Mon Feb 28, 2011 6:19 pm

Well, i have been placed in a quandary and some would say a very nice quandary....

I have been approached to play in the new women’s super league for Liverpool who are one of the 8 teams taking place.

I would go in as the No 1 goalkeeper and would receive a small wage/expenses for my troubles. The new league is going to be televised and now has huge backing which can only be a good thing for the women’s game. Liverpool as a club have great backing and probably at this moment in time have the better facilities to offer and training etc but.......

They are not my beloved City. I have been a part of City for the past 3 season and have been a part of the steady improvement that has taken place. They have looked after me and allowed me to take time out of training to attend City games, work commitments and have looked after me in relation to injuries (note to LAHAD....keep in buttoned).

I just don’t know what to do, head (all my family, friends and Heather) says Liverpool and my heart (my football manager) says City.

It’s probably my one and only chance of playing big time football again and a possible way back into the international fold. City are over two years away from applying to take part in the super league and i think by then i will be retired.

Please help me lads to make the right choice........

I say go liverpool. Do what's best for your career and if you have a better chance o playing for England that has to be the best career decision.

I voted City, but I guess rationality is all for Liverpool; at the end of the day you have to choose what will make you happier and if you feel that having one last chance at big time football and possibly the international scene is what you really want, then Liverpool it is. If instead, you don't see that as so important and you will be content with playing for the team you support, then City is the way.

Players have very limited time to build a career, if you dont go you'll wonder "what if" forever... you have your entire life to follow City.

Fuck us straight off! Earn the big bucks, party with loads of women, dine out at fine restaurants, save up for a house in Prestbury next door to Rooney and throw shit over his wall, retire on a high lifting the cup above your head.

Seriously though I'd go if you'll be getting a wage.

Wow, that's some quandary.

It's disappointing that City Ladies aren't in a position to offer you similar opportunities at the moment. I'd go for it I reckon, it's better to regret things you've done, than regret not daring to take a chance, and it sounds like you won't regret the move. And as you say, you are knocking on a bit!

If you ignore the money aspect and just focus on the football i would weigh it up between the chances of achieving something not already at achieved at city and what you can achieve at liverpool. would playing at liverpool would take you to the next level? will you achieve something at liverpool, international caps, honours, chance to go fully pro in america?

i know one thing about women's football, goalkeepers are worth there weight in goal

I'm in full agreement with this Andie. You've played for City, something none of us will have ever done, now spend the last few years of your career testing yourself and maybe getting an international cap. Isn't that why you played in the first place?

Will City make any money out of you to buy a replacement? Or do they already have someone lined up to step into your boots?

Why are City not going to be part of the new league? Or, how far are we from being in that league and able to give you a wage etc??

If they need you in order to get a promotion or move into the league next year, then they start to pay you as well, then stick at the blues.

If Scouse are well out of our league, literally, then go for it. But don't forget to think about your commute and price on your time spend travelling etc. The grass isn't always greener....

In our current (premier league position) anyone would be mad to make that move. However, this is more like when we were division 2. If Liverpool had come in for Goater back then, would anyone of us have criticised him for going?

This is the same. At the moment, you're a level above City and nothing you can do will bring them up to the level you should be at. Say a big thanks to City for everything to date then and do the professional thing.

And then stay off here, you bin dipper.

You could have another ankle injury playing for City or Scousepool for that matter and that would be it, but at least if you went there you'd be fulfilling a dream to play at the highest level (well it would be my dream anyway!!).

As long as your work are cool about the extra time required for travelling to training etc then the world is your

Go to Liverpool Fu. City will always be in your heart, no matter where you play football, and City as your club will be there for you again in the future. The right move is to the better team and if you didn't make it, I think you'd wonder "what if" for the rest of your life. Good luck with your choice.

If you really think that you have it in you to make one more push for the national side and to play and train at top level for another couple of years, you should definitely go for Liverpool. You will probably regret it for the rest of your life if you don't. But just keep in mind that they probably won't be as accommodating, which probably will mean that you have to give things up in your private and professional life.

i'd stick with god's only. but i can understand everyone saying go to liverpool. and i don't think anyone would begrudge you leaving, you're clearly better than the level you're playing in at the moment.

I love the fact that most people want whats best for SOF over the club, a testiment to what a good poster SOF is.

really tough one Andi, Think about how you will feel in 5 years time looking back on it and having played out your career at the team you love but never really in with a chance of the big time.

I wonder if Matt Le Tissier would have made different choices if he had his time all over again?

I would hate to make this choice, but the way you worded your post makes me think you already know which one to pick.
