SSN just named the team, but only gave 10 names!

Hart, Zabba, Lescott, Kompany,...?, Barry, Yaya, Kolorov, Silva, Dzeko & Balotelli

But according to OS it's Richards.

Subs: Taylor, Boateng, Boyata, de Jong, Vieira, SWP, Tevez.

Hmmm. We need to play our strongest team against Kiev. Why is Tevez not playing?

I'd like to see us play more like a 4-4-2 just for one game. We have the players to do it today

I'm really excited at playing Kiev.

I remember one of first proper football books I owned (circa 79) had appendices at the end, listing all the European games played that year, with more detail added the further the competition went. I think Kiev made the semi-finals that year and they have always stuck in my mind as one of the biggest clubs around.

Obviously Ukraine was part of Russia in the late 70`s and with all the cold war stuff going on, any Russians were fairly terrifying (to an 8 yr old lad), so reading about the Kiev Russian machine marauding through Europe built an image in my head that this was a team to be scared of. The picture of the team with hindsight looks like the aryan master race, big strong white, blonde haired men. The pic was black & white so cant comment whether they had blue eyes:)

Amazing what you remember!

I was thinking about this today & thought i`d do some wiki research and stumbled on this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Death_Match

Who`d have thought that Pele & Mike Summerbee had played for Kiev in the 2nd world war.

Interesting (to me anyway so thought id share)

I like the look of that team. Don't forget we're playing in something like -6C so we need some hard men among the flair players.

Probably a bit knackerd, but will come on if need I suspect. Why is Barry in there over Nigel? Even hoping on one foot Nigel offers more than Barry's current run of form.

I thought Barry has been doing ok recently.

Agreed we need the hard players for this game, only thing id have different is Milner for Yaya in the middle, but dunno if Milner is up for 90 mins/even fit.

FWD line should be ok. Dzeko is well hard, and Ball should be use to a chill in the winter having played in Milan, because it does get fucking cold over there too.

milner didn't even travel, hasn't trained fully recently either - maybe the return leg if we're feeling hopeful

Tevez cream crackered. De Jong not fit for 90 minutes. I expect to see Nigel on for Barry/Kolarov in the second half depending how the game goes.

Try http://www.itv.com/itvplayer/, but if you're not in the UK it won't work. Nice of me that considering you told me to fuck off in the Wigan thread.
