Kolo - what's the latest?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Kolo - what's the latest?

Postby mr_nool » Wed Mar 16, 2011 1:57 pm

I've been really busy lately and haven't been able to keep up to date on all the City news.

Is there any new developments with the Kolo issue? Has the "b-test" been done and analysed yet? When will his hearing be? When will he get the final verdict? Is there anyway he can get off without a ban?

Lots of support from Adebayor, Drogba, Ivory Coast, etc but no word on where the hearing is going to be.

i think you need to test the sample taken on that day, not some dodgy piss test a month later or whatever. Right?

i'm as confused about this as anyone tho...it seems unclear, and i am afraid that the club and player want it to seem unclear because he's fucked.

cheers

The last bulletin on this was that it was likely to take around 2 months for Kolo and his legal team to put a defense case together.
It was said that he is unlikely to have his B sample tested, it would seem that he's accepted the findings and is looking at his best case for mitigation.
Whatever happens, it doesn't look good for Kolo.
He will be at the mercy of the FA and if WADA aren't satisfied with the outcome, they are likely to step in.

It seems to me that he hasn't got a leg to stand on. He's already admitted taking the pill (s) & stupidity is no defence in this matter. Whatever the standard punishment for being a fucking idiot is; he will have to just accept it & hope he's sharp enough to have a future in the game when he eventually comes back. If he gets a lesser ban than others it will be favouritism, so he's fucked.

From where |I sit Ted, I have a bad feeling that you may wellbe right.
We can only hope that his legal team contains a genius or two.

Even if he has the blokes who got OJ Simpson off, the authorities can't be seen to be showing favouritism. I'm sure they'll be as lenient as they can reasonably be but from what I've read, unless I've misunderstood it; the lenient going rate for this very offence is still a hefty ban.

I suspect a 9 month ban. Paddy Kenny's case springs to mind where he took something inadvertently, the FA accepted this was the case and that it wasn't for performance enhancement, still banned him for 9 months.

As Brutal as it sounds...can we sack him if its a 9 month ban?

I suppose that he could well be considered in breach of contract or something similar.
I also think that sacking Kolo would have further implications and raise a number of related quuestions.
How might it affect Yaya?
How would it affect player morale?
What is Kolo considered to be worth as an asset?

No doubt, our owners are keeping their options open and biding their time before making any decisions.

Given the club and Mancini have come out in support of Kolo, if they moved to sack him now it would be seen as really bad form.

I don't think we pay a banned player anyway, so it's wouldn't be like he is costing us anything.

I am certain I heard somewhere thatthe rags were quite upset that they were forced to pay plug during his ban. Some technicality in his contract.
Not certain about Kolo though. I suppose that may be decided by how valued he is.

I think it kinda depends on the circumstances. You could take a hardline view a la Chelsea with Mutu and sack someone for gross misconduct (I'm pretty sure that per the letter of the law, taking a "banned substance" however innocently/foolishly would enable an employer to take a view that they could do so), stop paying them and even go as far (as Chelsea did) as sueing them for the loss you have suffered on their transfer fee etc.

BUT I can't even see City wanting to do that strategically or in spirit.

It's just not the way we operate as a club, I'd like to think the same would've been true before the Sheikh but this kind of thing is definitely not in his modus operandi.

A few factors that will also maybe come into play in our owner's thinking:

Punishing Kolo will definitely risk a negative reaction from Yaya, that is sure. But standing by Kolo I would say will buy massive loyalty from both Kolo himself and his brother, hugely so I'd say in the latter's case

What a great signal this sends out to players who might think, OK City will pay me loads but might they f*ck me over at some point. Well, in addition to sending Adebayor from our reserves to Real Madrid's first team, letting Robinho go back to Santos, Bellamy to his beloved Cardiff you can now add, we'll stand by our men if the knives are out. Some might say overly indulgent of us in many of these cases. I say savvy operating from us in lots of ways.

Finally, our Kolo is a famously devout Muslim. I think you can say that the owner would like to think of himself in the same way. I'm sure some of our fellow posters in the Gulf etc are better qualified to offer a view on this but I would say that there is zero chance of us hanging Kolo out to dry. And rightly so.

Way to regurgitate what's been said in the last few posts, give it a nice religious kicker and pass it off for an original thought.
