Your last words to the players ......

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Your last words to the players ......

Postby Kladze » Mon Mar 21, 2011 2:28 pm

before they take to the field.

What would yours be?

Mine would be something along these lines --- "You're better than these. Go and enjoy yourself, take them to the cleaners".

I think Shankly, Clough, Allison and many others would approve. Because that is what a winning mentality actually is.

I wonder what our Bob's last words are?

There is a machinegun in the tunnel, two nil lead by the half or there will be consequences.

I would pile the shirts up by the dressing room door.
Then, as they were about to go onto the pitch, I would ask them...

"Are you man enough?...Are you brave enough?...Are you strong enough to wear this shirt and represent this club and the dreams of those fans who support you?...Cos if you ain't, don't take the shirt...sit down again and leave it for someone who is"

...and as each one went past, taking the shirt...i would expect the answer "YES" from somewhere deep within.
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT

right now, this season...with this team...before the semi:

i would give them a rant in a calm, dispassionate voice that made them feel like i'm at the end of my rope. Like when your child is so impossibly challenge to manage that you feel like giving up. i might even openly weep a bit if it struck me...and what i would tell them as i looked them all in the eye, each and every one of them, is that i know they aren't good enough, and i know they don't have it in them. I would tell them that i respected that they were professionals but they didn't have the heart...for me as their manager, or the club or the fans, and that i wasn't holding that against them because that's how most modern footballers were, and i can't change that. i'd let them know they practiced everything and ran through the motions, but that i didn't see anyone who really really cared if we lost, and that's how i know they probably don't have it in them. i'd wish them luck and tell them if they thought they could prove me wrong they should start right now, today...in this very moment.

So going on to the field with the intention of giving the opposition a right good tonking, and then carrying that out, wouldn't be enjoyable?

you would enjoy it the second the final whistle blows.
for 90 odd minutes you bust your bollocks until that job is done.
for any player during a game to think "im really enjoying myself here today" is far from in the right mindset

What Beckenbauer said before the 1990 World Cup Final to the German National Team:

"Geht's raus und spielt's Fussball"

(Go out and play football)
so now as every enemy circles our city
sour and sore, we swear war

Similar to John. After they had all come back in from the warm up I'd get them to all stand up in the dressing room and ask them to take off their shirts ... then their short ..... I'd then tell them to put them back on and go out there with the right atitude this time!

Ha ha, you'd think having an italian manager, he'd press that motto point home.
