Should FA Cup Semi-Finals Be Held At Wembley?

Postby King Kev » Sun Mar 20, 2011 10:40 pm

For as long as semi-finals have been held at Wembley I have been against the idea. It seems crazy to me to send 2 sets of fans to Wembley when their clubs may be located just a few miles from each other but hundreds of miles away from London.

Having said that, when Micah scored against Reading I nearly wet myself with excitement about going to Wembley.

Having said that I am dreading spending hour after hour stuck in traffic going to, and coming from Wembley.

Having said that, we're going to Wembley!

And so on....

No & they should kick off at normal time.

Whatsmore, the national stadium should be in the midlands built for half the price & international games should be spread around the country like they were til those unaccountable unelected twats forced everyone to go to their stadium, for which nobody voted.

Wembley should be the pinnacle of the journey - the time when the commentators can talk about them coming down with cramp as they aren't used to the Wembley pitch as the Cup Final enters its final throws - then again there should also be endless replays, no penalties and tickets distributed to the fans and not the suits - that's the saddest state of affairs, the majority of blues will enjoy getting to Wembley for the Semi as there isn't a cat in hells chance even half of us will get a Final ticket (accepting we had to get there first and our Uncle isn't Booby Charlton / Gordon Banks!)

Nope, it devalues getting to Wembley.

The idea was that the FA Cup semis venue was somewhere that was still reasonably convenient to travel to for the competing teams - Wembley is only convenient if you are a London team.

Previously it was a shit stadium in a shithole. Now haveing spent a gazillion and taking 6 years over it, the FA have successfully created a nice stadium .... still in a shithole. You cant get away via the tube unless you have 90 minutes to spare, you cant park anywhere near unless you know the other means available to you, and food and drink requires a 2nd mortgage.

I'm exactly the same as you KK. I always said that only finals should be played at Wembley and semi's at neutral grounds but since we won the quarter final I'm excited about going to Wembley to see City play. Double standards from me I'm afraid :-p

Nope they shouldn't...the 'National' stadium should have been built somewhere between Stafford and Birmingham. The FA are clearly Londoncentric twats!

Definitely not, for all the reasons already quoted, plus why should four lots of supporters have to travel 200 miles. City v scum should be a Scouse ground, Notlob v stoke at a Manc ground.

I voted no...the only plus point with having the semi at Wembley is the allocation for fans

Spooky, if you add all the numbers up then take away the 8 & 6 and add the 1 back in again you get 11

It's a sign, we must get our match switched to Villa Park!!

[strike]St. James's[/strike] Fat Mike's Sports Shop@St. James's would've been a reasonable choice for our game. Big stadium, no problems getting there and back in a day, good boost for the local economy.

In the interests of fairness, the other game could've been held at the Stadium of Light.

I agree entirely with this, it may give a lot more of our fans the chance to attend, but Wembley should be for finals only. It certainly takes some of the tradition and glamour away from the competition IMO

Millenium should be the regular semi final venue - neutral, decent capacity, reasonably good comunications by road and rail and it´s NOT Wembley so the final FEELS like the final

I be shocked if anyone really wants it to be at Wembley. Apparently it only happens because those lazy australian dolts we commissioned to build it were slack-arses, it went over budget, and now we have to hammer it with any event possible, to try and recoup the costs. I blame dazby.
