American Football sucks big fat ones. I'm disgusted that this fine thread idea has been allowed to be sullied.

Oh dear.

Fabulous sport, ridiculed by those ignorant of its violent, yet simplistic beauty.

On Ed Reed, the guy played a play-off game this January, two days after his brother went missing, jumping into a River to evade the Police. Yep, his brother was a lowlife, but Ed Reed still turned up to play on the sunday with his team, played his heart out in fact in a winning effort, and then went back to his family to grieve. I wonder how many Prem footballers would/could do the same?

For the Semi? I'd say something like this is what it comes down to, this is why they decided to dedicate their lives to the game; moments like this. I'd tell each and every player that he has a chance to be a part of something special, a part in the rebirth of a giant. This game, and the game after it might be the most important thing they do in their entire careers, and surely no one has been a part of a project of this magnitude before. It's up to them to write their names in history and prove that as a team we are better than opponents. We are stronger, faster and we want this more ... we want to win. And we will give up everything to do it. Leave everything on the field, because if I see one person come back into this dressing room who isn't exhausted from their supreme effort on the field, I promise you, that person will never again play for this club. Go out and do yourself proud, do your TEAM proud. You'll have a lifetime to live your regrets, don't let this be one of them.

side note: never understood the hatred american football gets. If you are a lover of sport, I don't see how you can hate any sport at all ... the different rules and strategies, and stresses on the body are what make different sports so interesting to watch. If you think american football players aren't athletes, you've been grossly misinformed.

"On paper we are probably better than the other team; but you don't win a football game on paper. You go down on that pitch and show WHY you're supposed to be better of them. You keep going from kick off to the final whistle, no pauses, and work as a team to score a goal more than them. You don't act as primadonnas, because the team comes before any of you. If you only think of yourselves you will let yourselves and your companions down, and we will be trashed. But if you put that extra inch of effort in to help your teammates, and they do it for you, then we're gonna come out on top. We have the quality to see them off, but only if we really want it. The choice is yours, lose as a bunch of frightened overpaid cunts, or win as a group of young men who know their worth and put it at the service of the team they serve"

Admittedly some of this talk was inspired by Pacino's video. But it's true, that's what a real team is about, and that's how some "smaller" teams can get the best of supposedly stronger ones.

I would play them the Friday song that's floating around in off topic. I would then tell them that if they lost they would be forced to listen to that song 100 times straight before leaving the stadium.

Don't know about prematch talk but after some fucking pathetic first half display, I'd send them back to the pitch. You piles of shite haven't earned the right for half time break.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

It has little or nothing in common with rugby - eg forward passes, multiple substituions, all 11 men in contact rather than just those in possession, blindside hits, different periods of play, artificial turf, a frightening number of injuries ... I could go on. Then again, if you understood American Football you'd know all that, rather having simple tabloid soundbytes to opine on it.

Ah well.
