Bert Trautman on Sky History Channel

Postby eastlands-lostboy » Tue Mar 22, 2011 9:20 am

Is this a new programme or has anybody seen it before ? I have set my Sky box for it this week and cannot wait to see the progamme if it has been on before, is it any good. Also on a seperate note its been great to see Uve Rossler on telly, he always says City "We" and talks about City with real passion. Would love to see him join the coaching staff. Top player for us ! The Goat, Disco Pants all great

It's on Yesterday rather than History. 9pm on Thursday and then repeated for about 6 hours if you forget.

it's on "Yesterday" right now
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

Bert's a real hero and a fantastic human being. I recommend reading his recent autobiography as it goes into much greater detail than the programme tonight and is even more eye-opening.

I didn't know he had an autobiography out! I have read the biography by Alan Rowlands quite a few times and can thoroughly recommend it though.

I'm off to Amazon now to find his autobiography!

It's written with Katrine Clay and he signed a copy for me last year in Waterstones. It goes way beyond what he says in Rowland's book, which I've also read.

You know you are old when a player you can remember in his prime is featured in history channell.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Doesn't it just.

When I was about 6 or 7 City held a penalty competition for kids (who had qualified by some means I forget) to try to score against Bert.

Looking back, it was pretty obvious he was letting them all score.

When I took mine I hit the post FFS !

LOL!

Gutted I missed the programme, it'll be on again though no doubt. And again. And again. Which is good, on this occasion.

Taking a penalty against Trautman is quite a claim to fame! Martyn Margetson came to our school for similar once (Coton was ill) and out of five penalties I took, scored two, one saved, and I swear to God two of them hit a brick at the bottom of the left hand post, jammed in to keep it straight. Gutted.

his life would make an amazing film with the right people behind it.
