his life would make an amazing film with the right people behind it.

Yes it covered his time as a member of the Hitler youth, then as a paratrooper and finally as a prisoner of war.

It was his time as a paratrooper - learning how to fall etc - which gave him the skills to know when and how to dive at a forwards feet, something which was actually new to the game until Trautmann came along ..... and also what caused him to suffer the broken neck.

suprised it didn't come in earlier given that the forwards were allowed to barge the keeper into the net as he recieved the ball!

it pointed out that he is the only man ever to win an Iron Cross, an OBE and a Player of the Year award.
And he fought on both the Eastern and the Western Fronts. Slick
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

There are a couple of things that the programme didn't mention that I find interesting;

    During the time between breaking his neck and it being diagnosed and treated, the club sent Bert for massages to try to relieve the pain. These massages could well have ended up crippling or even killing Bert.

    Are his playing and managing days were over, Bert was asked by his friend Adolf (Adi) Dasler to become the first UK agent for his sportswear company. Bert Trautmann was the man responsible for introducing Adidas to Britain.

I also think that bert was the only foreign player to ever captain an English representative football team...
Only memeory so could well be wrong on the details but i think it was The English League v The Italian league.
