Academy Game

Today v Derby was a strange game.2 down after just a few minutes but with an opening or two of our own it promised to be a game full of goals. So it proved as when I left with a couple of minutes to go it was 5.3 to City.

Star of the game was Bradley Robinson who scored 3 and made the other 2 in an excellent display playing in a very attacking midfield role behind Devante Cole, promoted from the U16's.He really is an action player and was at times chasing back to win balls and always a threat picking the ball up and running at the defence. The goal he set up for Cole was a great example.Good movement and first touch from Cole and then calmly slotting it past the keeper. No exagerated reaction from his father who stayed almost unmoved till Devante got back to the half way like but then just gave an understated thumbs up.Overall I thought Cole took a little while to get into the game but showed some good touches. This shone through for our first goal when his first sight of anything like a chance ,he dropped his shoulder and went past the center back but the keeper blocked one on one but the ball went out to Robinson who scored.Clearly he might be a little lightweight playing 2 years above his age but I don't think that will be a problem as he develops.

The final goal was another attacking run from Robinson and again he found the key pass through to Rusnak who scored well.Unfortunately the defence wasn't as good today looking shaky too often where Kennedy and Mappen Walters were not always at their best.

Interesting to note that ,arguably the best 3 attacking players were not around today either.Bunn and Roman now are part of the EDS squad so don't feature anymore at this level and Henshall is away with England.

Future insights; love it Doug.

I wish I had fuck all to do with myself apart from watch City mate, it must be a ball mate ;)

It has it's moments.I decided to go today instead of watching the cricket from Sri Lanka...decisions decisions.

No academy games now for me to watch though as they go to Abu Dhabi next weekend for 12 days. Some kind of tournament over there.
