But the same interview seem to lead The Sun to conclude he DOES in fact fear the sack...

If you mean does he "think he could be sacked", then he probably knows full well that if he doesn't deliver the targets in the allotted time, he is a gonner.
It is a matter of semantics. If you mean that he fears (as in frightened or worried) being sacked, the answer is probably no. He has enough money in the bank not to need to work and he knows he and his family are secure. His reputation is still good enough for him to find new employment,,,so the word fear and how it is translated are crucial.

Joe Royle once said (well before he was sacked) that he was comfortably off, had his wife and his 2 labradors, so why should he 'fear' the sack. Multiply the money thing 100 times for Bobby and you have the answer.

However I do think he is driven to succeed, and fears failure for the sake of his ego.

The way his teams are setup would suggest he very much fears the sack

I am surprised he has come out and said this even though no doubt just answering a question from a reporter.Feels like/sounds like a slightly worried manager to me.

Yeah he's really scared of that 10 million pounds payoff.
Oh god, who wouldn't be?
Bollocks.
I'm not sure actually where he'll end up.
If we finish 4th, he will be here next season and rightly so.
If not 4th i very much doubt it.

Not sure if it was the same interview but a similar question Doug. His answer of "NO" was quite offhand...a sort of ,,What a stupid question that was"

I don't think he fears the sack, but just fears not succeeding.

Perhaps not, because he'll get a good pay-off, and he could always say to potential Italian employers that 'England is different', and his 'rich employers didn't understand football'
I think his pride would be hurt, more than anything
