Mignolet

Postby Wooders » Mon Apr 04, 2011 9:41 am

this might seem like an odd comment to make of a goalkeeper who was in a team that lost 5-0 but I thought he looked really good yesterday - might be the answer as backup to Joe in the summer?

I thought he looked ok, probably should have come out quicker for Silva's goal though. He's only 22 as well isn't he?

He would probably want games to keep improving, since he's in his early twenties and getting matches at Sunderland. Seems to have good reactions.

There is more to goalkeeping than making spectacular saves.

Just because he made a couple of flying saves doesn't make him a good 'keeper. A huge part of goalkeeping is spotting the danger early and reacting (changing your position, organising your defenders, cutting down angles, etc) so that you don't have to make the spectacular stops.

We have had good examples of this at City in recent years, Isaksson conceded far too many goals but made some pretty saves and was considered a good 'keeper by many City fans.
Kasper kept a lot of clean sheets but didn't throw himself about his goal as much and was thought of by some as nothing more than an average goalie.

It's a big No to Mignolet for me.

I don't think he can be blamed for his defence being so dozy yesterday - hes a young keeper and still has a lot to learn - I think he would offer us something

To be fair to him, he closed down Johnson well enough (even though he was incorrectly flagged offside),that was a smart bit of goal keeping. I think he did more than make a few 'camera' saves, he just wasn't helped by an absolutely woeful Sunderland defence.

Kieron Westwood is our answer.

Current Ireland number one with shay injured, came through ranks at city and with coventry at the mo, on a bosman in summer and a massive city fan, his goalkepeing hero is Tony Coton(heard all this on an interview recently). he looks an excellent keeper and will push Joe a long way while been happy to be at our club the one he loves, makes lots of sense to me. Think NDQP or ted have mentioned him before so i may not be original with that one.

Faling that Thomas sorenson is about to sign a contract to be stokes back up for a season, would be ideal too and wouldnt cost a penny, obv happy to be second choice but well capable of pushing Joe.

Time to sell Shay and get one of those lads in on a free.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I suggested him. Also, according to the rules, he'd be homegrown player. No brainer really.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Mignolet is a very, very good young goalkeeper (he's only 22) and has looked good every time I've seen him.

Yes for me.

An Joe is only 23, there's no comparison as far as I am concerned, Joe is light years ahead.

If we are going to replace Given in the Summer then we need somebody with experience rather than a youngster who isn't anywhere near as good as the youngster we already have.

If Wigan go down and Bolton remain willing to sell him, I'd have Ali Al-Habsi.

That. And also he is older than Jesus. And he wouldn't come as a back up.
