I find the "manchester thanks you banner" an embarrassment personally. On many levels Libya under gadaffi is/was a more egalitarian place than any of the gulf states. Just find it all a bit hypocritical.

am i really the only person that's not entirely comfortable with mr khaldoon (and ADUG)'s quite prominent position in what is quite a repressive regime with a quite poor human rights record including state sanctioned torture and the sending of soldiers to quell protests in other countries etc etc?

very true - am not a massive fan of them either, or some of the things that happen via the uk gov't. but they do provide some basic levels of human rights and freedom. belive me - i'd be just as annoyed if dick cheney or george dubya was in charge.
