SWP wants to retire a blue

i had goosebumps reading this article. yeah he may not be the player he once was, but i cannot stress enough the importance of having players who really understand the club in these heady days of big money transfers. he played brilliantly at the swamp, and i think this guy has got to get at least twenty minutes next saturday whatever the score. also, anyone have any info on how micah's getting on? cos he's another player of this type.

I am wondering.
If somebody offered you that much would you say "no I am not taking that,it's to much"
I don't know many people that would but I am willing to be told.

Does this mean he will be retiring at the end of the season?

Spot on.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

SWP will always be a fan favourite and I would love him to see out his career at City.

However, we should only keep him on if he can make a valid contribution to the squad, and since he returned to us, he hasn't shown he can do that. There's no point in keeping a player just for sentimental purposes. Giggs and Scholes are still at United because they do contribute to the squad, however, the rest of their generation have long gone.

I'll always have fond memories of SWP, however, based on his performances since his return, we should be looking to get someone better in to take his place in the summer.

Loce SWP, almost always have (apart from him going to chelsea when me and KK went to see him play in the pre-season friendly at macc, he broke my lads heart!), he has had me on my feet at matches more than any other player. AJ will catch him I think, but I love SWP and the memories he has given me. Top blue

Im all for being sentimental but he's peaked, he's not good enough anymore, I'd rather get Weiss back next season.

He could go back to Notts Forest next season, that would be nice for everyone.

Big thank you by the way.

Not SWP's biggest fan, to be honest. But have to agree with you regarding the fact that, for example, Tevez gets a standing ovation no matter how crap he's been, and despite the fact he's handed in a transfer request.

I'd take SWP over Vlad anyday of the week. No sentiment he's simply a better player.

loved swp the first time, but not really happened since he returned. He also seems to have a lost some pace since his last injury. If that's permanent, he's finished in the top flight as it was always his pace, and bizarre ability to keep a ball he didn't seem to have under control, that was his asset.

Sad, but if he's not up to it anymore, he's not up to it.

That's a bit ott, he's hardly been given a chance at city, and when he did play he was good.

Keep the sweep. He will score an important goal in the run in.

I would really like to keep him. But, would he add anything special? I don't think so, I think Mancini will go ahead of giving the youngsters the chance rather than SWP.

Taking the blue tinted glasses off and putting aside how much I enjoyed him as a player the first time around - the only reason he wants to stay is money related. He was available to purchase in the January transfer window - he was actively looking for a move but the only club that was interested was Fulham taking him on loan at vastly reduced wages.

Shaun now realises that he'll never get near £65,000 a week so is happy to take that now - remember at the start of the season he and his step-dad were pushing City to offer him a contract of £90,000 a week.

Wouold love to see SWP given new deal, No sentiment, just a very good player and still got loads to give, given the chance. Long term success will be gained by having players like SWP around. When a player on £150 bags a week can treat the club the fans the shirt the way Balo has this season this is a no brainer, A player love him a club. Not many of them around

He (or rather his agent) is trying to play the press game again, the first time was to try for an increased contract which didn't work, so he wanted to move clubs to try and get more money, when that didn't work they're now trying for an extended contract presumably at his current rate. I'm sick of all the media bollox and totally ambivalent about his future. (Nice cameo against Sunderland though)
