Aljazira win UAE Cup

Postby Dubaimancityfan » Mon Apr 11, 2011 4:22 pm

Oue "sister" club just beat Alwahda 3-0 in an Abu Dhabi derby to win the UAE President's Cup (= FA Cup). They're also leading the league and are strongly tipped for the double.

Good omen for us for tonight and for the Semi Final !

Congrats to Sheikh Mansour.

Serious question- how similar do Aljazira and Al-Jazeera (the news channel) sound when pronounced in Arabic, and what do the two things both mean?

They are pronounced exactly the same. Same words/meaning.

I believe that it means The Island....which makes sense in the sense of the TV channel as Al Jazeera is based in Qatar which is an island.

Both are the exact same word in Arabic except the club (http://www.jc.ae) and the news channel chose differnt ways to spell it in English.
It actually mean island in Arabic and refers to the Arabian Peninsula (quasi island) of which both the UAE and Qatar (news channel HQ) are part of.

Yeah al jazeera means the island, which in the clubs case refers to Abu Dhabi island.
It ended 4-0 btw, which if you watched the highlights without the goals you'd think it was for al Wahda.
Fucken corrupt ref and team altogether. Robbed I tell u, robbed.
I support al wahda obviously :(

Tough one AD but you can't argue with 4 goals, corrupt ref not withstanding !

I didn't think about Abu Dhabi being an island as the origin of the name. I stand corrected.

Well it was 1-0 till the 75th minute, where we had up to 70% possession.
The ref disallowed a perfectly ligitmate goal in the first half and didn't give a clear penalty which deserved 2nd booking.
2-1 with an extra man at half time is a different game isn't it?
And I am not just clinching at straws, they were crystal clear goal, penalty and sending off :(

And now city is losing, what a shit day.
