After last night - Mourinho ??

Postby Mikhail Chigorin » Thu Apr 28, 2011 4:59 pm

After the way in which Real Madrid conducted themselves in last night's game (not that Barcelona were much better, if at all), have those posters who would have liked to see Mourinho as our manager, changed their minds to any great degree ??

I've changed my mind a little bit.

I didn't want him before, I definitely don't want him now - 'proven winner' or not.

Mourinho doesn't get it right 100% of the time but he's won a trophy every year since 2003. His record speaks for itself.

I'm not advocating getting rid of Mancini at all as we're on the verge of having a fantastic season. But if we ever were in the market for a new manager, I would definitely have Mourinho here. He's a winner and I want City to win. Simple.

'The Special One' turned into 'The Not Quite So Special One' last night for me, but to be honest, the game I was looking forward to turned into a farce, completed by the ref's sending off which reinforced my view that the game was preordained, similar to the Arsenal game. Ridiculous sending's off in both dictated the game, whichever way you look at it.

Entirely this.

Barca were a lot more embarrassing last night too imo.

agreed as well. Barca were the same cynical joke that Spain were vs the Dutch in the WC final. completely ridiculous. The sending off was a total joke, and Mourinho just got it a bit wrong. Hard to overcome both of those issues -- the Red card AND the setup problems.

Still, if anyone can find a way back from 2-0 down i would take my chances with Jose. Why not? His RM team have NOT been a completely defense-minded team this year. They attack very well and i wouldn't be surprised to see a real fucking cracker of a shootout in a weeks time.

cheers

With all the supposedly great names (big money signings) in his squad he managed to produce a performance where his team - the HOME TEAM - managed only 29% possession of the ball. And the red card had no part to play in that, it was just as bad, if not worse, in the first half.

Fuck that!

I used to really like Barca but the last 3 or so years they've gone so far up their own arses and the way the cheat in the big matches, hound the ref and get many, many very odd decisions in their favour I now want the opposition to beat them whenever they play.

Each year UEFA are desperate for a Barca v United final as it generates the biggest interest/money.

To answer the original question - still yes from me.

To be fair a lot of that Barcelona possession was just passing it between the back 4, particularly in the first half. After Real went down to 10 Barca were able to pick passes between the Real midfield and defence. Neither team looked particularly exciting and Barca shaded the dramatic reactions to any challenge, Busquets and Pedro were the main culprits for it.

Mourinho plays the opposition. If you expect any team to attack Barca in a free flowing game they would be picked apart and humiliated under normal circumstances (and he knows this, having been thumped 5-0 by them this season). They have the best midfield of any current domestic team, then there's Messi who is playing on a different level to almost anyone past or present and can beat teams single handed. His plan seemed to be to prevent them from playing and then nick a goal presumably at a setpiece or settle for a draw (pretty much the same plan that won them the cup in their previous game). He was achieving his aim until the sending off.
And of course I'd still want him here.

Fair comment.

still doesn't take away from the fact that Madrid totally and abysmally failed to impose their own game on the tie though does it?

100% Yes.......his record speaks for itself and RM have been playing some great football all season whilst we have played shit looking football for most of our season.

Once again 100% yes.

What are you on about? Name me a football competition where you win trophies by having more possession than the other team. Possession is worthless.

Barca cheated their way to getting players carded/ sent off, this is the most embarrassing tactic off all.

Look up Mourinho's trophy history, his win percentages, his consistency at each club he's been to.

If you admit don't want City to win trophies only then will I understand why you wouldn't want Mourinho as our manager.

It depends on what 'their own game' was, I think Barcelona are an entity apart from most other teams, as others have said you can't go tearing into them as they will just pick you off. I understand what you are saying though, but Mourinho has had a few times to look at how to play Barcelona, and this is what he has decided is the best way to play them, and before they went down to 10 they were a match for them (despite the obvious possession statistics). It would have been interesting to see if they could have kept that discipline up for the entire game, and to give them a little credit they were making changes to open up a bit before the sending off (bringing Adebayor on for example).

Yeah I admit I want City to win fuck all ..........

Don't be fucking ridiculous.
Mourinho is almost institutionally defence minded. More than happy to win every game 1-0 and bore everyone to death doing it.
He's also a one man travelling circus who thinks he's bigger than any and every club he manages.

If that's truly what you want when you could have so much more, then fine - but don't come taking me to task because I disagree.

100% Yes

The guy is a winner and was only trying what he is paid to do.

He would instill an absolute winning mentality at our club which we still have not got.

Can`t wait to see what the great Taggart does with Barcelona, they will get hammered.

No from me.When you have players like Kaka, Ozil, Ronaldo, Adebayor, Benzema, Di maria and other attack minded players you HAVE to attack. But if you do choose to defend you have to do it right. Mourinho failed yesterday.
I wouldn't be angry if we got him, but I wouldn't think he would offer much more than Mancini currently does.
