Are people asking him to attack Barca for real?

He tried once & got annihilated.

When he took a more defensive approach he promptly drew in the league & won a cup.

Can't blame him tbh.

Who cares about Pique & Busquets stacking up possession in their own half? Preventing the passing movement in midfield was important & it worked up to the sending-off.

That said, I wouldn't mind Andre Villas Boas should Mancini decide to leave.

Cracking stuff.

Chelsea were dreadful to watch under Mourinho, which partly led to his sacking. However, they were ruthless and effective. If they'd stuck with him, I'm sure they'd have ground out a CL win by now.

Given the choice, I'm sure we'd all like a team who play like one of Wenger's and are as effective as one of Mourinho's, but that's almost impossible. Barca are possibly the closest you can get to that, but I'm not sure any of us will still be around to see City reach that level.

The choice is therefore do you want attractive football which might win something or effective football which will? In fairness, Mancini is almost a Mourinho Lite and it may still get us a trophy. I think I could live with Mourinho for a few years whilst we got a few trophies under our belt, but, like Abramovic, I suspect I would eventually get bored and want entertaining again.

We beat Barca 1-0 with Leslie as manager. Easy pickings. ;-)

We beat them by playing a rigid 4-5-1 with not much scope for individual flair but lots of discipline. A bit like Mourinho's chosen method of play really.

Very poor performance from Mourinho. His mind games didnt work;his stifling tactics didnt work and in the end he came across as a Manager who had lost the plot.I hope he is punished by UEFA and carries out his threat to leave football. The game will be much bette rwithout him.

I'm not advocating getting rid of Mancini at all as we're on the verge of having a fantastic season. But if we ever were in the market for a new manager, I would definitely have Mourinho here. He's a winner and I want City to win. Simple.

Entirely this.

Barca were a lot more embarrassing last night too imo.

With all the supposedly great names (big money signings) in his squad he managed to produce a performance where his team - the HOME TEAM - managed only 29% possession of the ball. And the red card had no part to play in that, it was just as bad, if not worse, in the first half.

Fuck that!

What are you on about? Name me a football competition where you win trophies by having more possession than the other team. Possession is worthless.

Barca cheated their way to getting players carded/ sent off, this is the most embarrassing tactic off all.

Look up Mourinho's trophy history, his win percentages, his consistency at each club he's been to.

If you admit don't want City to win trophies only then will I understand why you wouldn't want Mourinho as our manager.

Yeah I admit I want City to win fuck all ..........

Don't be fucking ridiculous.
Mourinho is almost institutionally defence minded. More than happy to win every game 1-0 and bore everyone to death doing it.
He's also a one man travelling circus who thinks he's bigger than any and every club he manages.

If that's truly what you want when you could have so much more, then fine - but don't come taking me to task because I disagree.

You mean like how he was defensive minded in the game immediately prior to this where they beat Valencia 6-3 away from home.

He clearly selects his tactics according to his opposition. If I secretly accepted that my team were technically inferior to Barca, which pretty much every side in the world is, then I would have used the same tactics.

A lot of special one-off tinted specs on here.. or is it just 'Real lovers' ?

did i miss something or did Real Madrid just lose 2-0 on their own turf.

Yes, but if you watched the game then you would have seen Barcelona weren't up to much until the sending off and they had space to play. And apparently losing 2-0 to the best team on the planet instantly makes you a bad manager, if you believe some of the posts in this thread.

Of course they did but it's one game. Look at the wider picture.

Losing to that Barça team to me is no real indicator of his managerial abilities.
What it did show though however with probably an inferior team(for now)Jose knew how to nullify any threat Barça were posing until the wrongful sending off.

While I may be a Mancini licker, I think it's bit out of order to even contemplate a new manager when we have FA Cup Final coming up and are very much on course to finish 4th.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

As an erstwhile Mancini 'outer' I agree.

I'd love to see him succeed and then show us a wholly different side to his tactical persona.

The recent comments from Mancini about hoping to stay on to bear fruit of the last year and a half's "groundwork" made med more positive to him, he has also been able to get results with his defensive style as of late.

I am still very much in doubt but as most I really, really hope he turns a corner and makes us really lift off into another dimension. I for one don't mind boring defensive football as long as we WIN.

As for Mourinho... my opinion has not changed alot since that game. It is in his persona and is the price you pay for his brilliance. Although I must say that Mourinho and spain is the worst possible combination. He would not be able to go as far as that in England IMO, Spain and Italy are cheater's leagues and he will use that for all it's worth.

That game was classic Mourinho, and exactly the reason I dont ever want that prick managing City.

We need to keep going at it, we got Mancini and he is going for 4th and a possible cup trophy. That'll cut it this season. I'd hate to see another manager coming in at this point.
