Howard Webb

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Howard Webb

Postby ant london » Sun May 01, 2011 5:19 pm

I thought he was largely excellent today

We often gripe (justifiably) about poor officiating but I thought he was very very good. Let the game flow, talked to players rather than doling out cards and didn't get the tough calls wrong

Apart from playing the ball to West Ham from one of our attacking moves...

I'd question the decision for Zabaleta's yellow, but yes. By and large he had a good game.

Funny as hell when he looked on Grant notes.

When not officiating rag games, I think Howard Webb is an excellent ref. There's a reason he's the first choice English ref in international competitions.

It's a shame not all refs are like him.
This weekend has had some very poor officiating and it's always great not having to talk about the ref after the match.

Strange how things seem so different. I'm not sure who went but for me there were loads of things going against us, especially the 3 City Yellow's in close succession. I'll see it again in a bit and realise I was totally wrong I reckon. Blue Tint's and all that ;-)

I thought Webb was average to poor today.Bit fussy and giving some fouls (both ways) that weren't anything.
That crazy moment when Joe took the free kick(or dead ball) and knocked it past Kompany for a throw in. Webb wasn't looking and hadnt a clue what to do. I was sure he would have made Joe take it again had Vinnie got it but he just let it ride because we lost it.

All three who thought he wasn't amazing watched at the ground. Re-watch it on TV with replays and then say what you think.

Honestly he didn't get much wrong at all

honestly, outside of missing Nigel's hai karate scent, he did pretty well in what was one of the most cynical and retarded games of football you could imagine in that WC final. Someone with a different flair for the dramatic would have had a couple people from both sides sent off in that match. And i dunno maybe that's what needed to happen, but still, it was about as tough as the players could make it on that day.

cheers

Quality interception if you ask me.

Good game from the ref though, sadly getting a good performance from a ref is such a rare occurrence that it warrants a thread of its own.

I thought he stopped the game too much in the second half and should have punished their handball.
