If/When Tevez Leaves..

Postby Niall Quinns Discopants » Thu May 05, 2011 4:49 pm

.... so, who should we go for? We need absolute surefire goalscorer. Not many of those around. Any ideas?
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I like Thomas Müller, Sergio Agüero and Karim Bezema and reckon they're all realistic targets.

Phew......good question !!??

Just a daft thought but, with Adebayor returning from his loan spell, we might just decide to 'make do' with him, Dzeko and SuperMario as our main strikers, playing any two from three at various times.

We might not replace Tevez at all.

Adebayor, and give Guidetti a chance to prove himself in a few games. If we buy anyone it should be a second Silva (and a second AJ for the other wing)

This is what im talking about.

Verrrryyyyyy difficult,to do well in the Premier League you need lots of goals and a 25 goal a season striker provides that.

Falcao from Porto is banging them in as is Hulk and Porto's owner/chairman is believed to be ready to listen to offers for the two players

No one really stands out. Anelka or Drogba would probably be do-able, but we would get ripped off and they don't have long left at the top.

Defoe - no
Crouch - no
Bent - unlikely, only just moved
Roo....(slap)
Messi - not possible
ronaldo - not possible & rag-i-fied
Aguero - too weak
Neymar - too weak
Rossi - ex rag....not as raggie as others.
Villa - not possible
Cavani (Italian, hesitant- lessons learnt in the past)
Di Natale - see above
Eto'o - too old
Mario Gomez - Im getting bored now, no one is really standing out.
Forlan - too old

Adebayor would need a personality transplant to come back here and actually want to play. Having him and Mario at the same club is NOT a good idea!

Maybe we should have moved for Carroll after all!

Looking at the list of premier league top scorers, the pickings are slim! Berbaflop is the league top scorer for fucks sake!

So far this season in the league 28 apps, 19 goals and 6 assists.

There is no one in the prem on his level.

Only player i think could replace him would be ronaldo.

The rest of the so called best strikers in the world havent done it in the prem and until they have are overrated in my eyes.

Before we talk about players, the more pertinent question is whether we replace him with a No9 or a No10 and that will depend on how Bobby plans to set up. I honestly think this is really significant. Tevez is a very unique player in terms of his style and the positions he takes up and this isn't just a case a listing various forwards and deciding who we fancy. Losing him will force Bobby in to deciding on a formation and a style of play.

Do we play 4-4-2 and are we looking for a No10 to play off Dzeko? Do we play 4-2-3-1 and are we happy for Edin to be up top? If Tevez leaves then Bobby has got some thinking to do.

I don't see us buying another No9, targetman type striker. I see us as far ore likely to be after a No10. Maybe the press reports are true and we are after Alexis Sanchez as Bobby sees him in that role.

I genuinely don't believe we need a like for like replacement.

We need a winger who consistently is able to deliver the ball where one of our big fuck off forwards can make something of it - and who can chip in with a few goals. Add a midfielder like Schneider in place of Barry and I think we will have everything in place we need.

Adebayor could be the man this year. He is proven in the prem that when he gets the service he is almost unplayable like Drogba. Give him a run in the side with decent service, and he will thrive. Just remember that he is only on loan because Mancini couldnt give him regular games because as has become apparent, nobody can play up front with Tevez.

Intresting question. Making better use of dzecko is prob the best solution. id like us to sign Drogba if chelsea are selling.

The question is also do we go for an unknown(similar to hernandez) or for proven quality(Eto?)? Look at spuds the lack of a decent striker has cost them badly. V important to get this right if we want to continue to grow...

well, the style of football will be different, so we need someone who will fit that, whatever it may be. Whilst a 20 goal plus striker is nice, it's not a necessity. Don't think anyone in the PL has achieved it yet, especially at the top end. Goals throughout the team is just as important, so the likes of silva have to improve, as do the defenders from set pieces. With a good defence, you only need 38 goals a season to win every league game. Add on what you will concede and it's still not a massive amount required

Their inability to defend has cost them much much dearer than an inability to score - they have after all scored only 3 less than us in the league, yet conceded 12 more. They have goalscoring contributions from all over the pitch, which is what a successful side needs.
