I'd say we'd be in for a young, up and coming type of player or we bring someone through from the ranks and give them their shot.

Andy Welsh/Walsh was likening Harry Bun to a young Shearer.

And these are the players we should be looking to bring through. It's all part of the plan so why not start using them.

Agree in theory Beefy but the raw materials we purchased/recruited for the academy (and are not suitable ages) were not of "title winning" calibre. We simply didnt have the pull to recruit most of those kids 5-6 years ago. We may have the odd fluke with one who is a late bloomer but I'd imagine it will be another 3-4 years before we stand the chance of consistently suitable quality being churned out.

As it stands, for the next couple of seasons, I'd prefer not to take too many chances.....especially not with strikers. In defence and midfield...even on the flanks we can carry a "prospect" in games. Not so at CF....they have to put the ball in the net and it is a big big big step up into the PL for that. If they fail we suffer and so, very likely, does their confidence and career prospects

Harry Bunn is the most likely next striker to make the grade, (if we assume Guidetti is leaving either permanently or on loan) & he's still a year away from us finding out whether he's a likely PL player imo. He's still growing & filling out judging by how he looked v Chelsea compared to last time I saw him. Occasional exciting sub maybe but not a starter in a proper game. Elsewhere, we have some fairly strong lads who may be able to figure here & there & possibly be quite effective in small doses but once again we don't want to be relying on them as starters yet.

I think we should fill up the squad with absolute quality for next season then, if some players don't contribute or become unsettled, move them on at the end of the season & perhaps, by then, a few young players will have matured enough to replace them.

The last Liverpool game I saw, Dalglish started with an 18 year old rightback and a 19 year old central midfielder, then brought on a 17 year old leftback as an injury substitution in the first quarter of an hour (I think they won the game if I remember correctly). I'd love to see us trusting our young prospects a bit more.

Liverpool are busy trying to avoid the Europa League. We're busy trying to cement the champions league.

I think once we do that, then we can fuck around...

I was talking about the season as a whole, not these last few games.

Please, please don't leave.

Unless we are getting either Messi, Villa or Ronaldo.

Thanks.

To be fair, Mancini has given quite a few academy players a first team appearance. But the reality is, most of the academy players we have produced over the years were not good enough to last in the old, shit City team. Now we're challenging at the top, even fewer will break through. That's just the way it is.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have a lot of shit in their squad and don't really have anything to play for so they can afford to do that more so at the moment.

That's fair enough, I'd have liked to see Guidetti in a game that didnt matter much though, or even what's-his-face, the guy that's supposed to be a potential playmaker
