I agree about Liverpool but today wasn't because of tinkering, today was because Moyes knows how to beat Mancini. It's as simple as that.

I'd have rotated too.

Tuesday and Saturday are more important than the match just gone. They might be professionals but they're also playing against professionals. Play the same eleven in all three and they'll be out on their legs at Wembley.

We were poor second half. At least we went to shit in this game rather than a week from now - should bring us back down to earth.

Good job Moyes told big pat to miss an open net and yaya to fluff his one-on-one then innit!

That loss had absolutely nothing to do with team selection. Mancini got it spot on.

The only criticism I have towards Mancini is how long it took him to change shit when we were clearly buckling... and this happens A LOT.

We were outdone not by change, but a lack of it at a crucial time.

If we play like that on Tue for the first hour, we'll be fine.

Agree, Vieira was struggling 20 mins before he went off & with Yaya starting to trundle to a halt, DeJong & Milner were overworked. Otherwise I can't fault Bob.

In the first half and the first 10 mins of the second half we played better football than we had done against Blackburn and West Ham. Mancini should have made subs quicker though after we went 2-1 down.

And if people want us to play our best XI then AJ was quite rightly dropped. He's been shit for 2 months now and has been lucky to stay in the team.

Our team selection was fine today. We created tons of chances and played some sublime football. But we weren't clinical enough and that cost us.

I've just watched Mancini's aftermatch interview and I don't think I've ever seen him as angry and upset by that debacle. he made a very valid point that also reflects back to the FA Cup semi when he went ballistic on the touchline.

As soon as we come under pressure, our defence drops back, then further back and then even firther back. It happened at Wembley and it happened again today. At Wembley, once we compressed the game again, we brought De Jong within reach of the rags midfield and negated them. It also allowed Silva and Johnson to link and operate in areas where they're more effective.

Today, we dropped back and back, it allowed Everton to pepper us and then panic set in. If we do that against Stoke next week, we get fucked...big time. it is simply playing into their hands. I am quite convinced that Mancini has hammered this into the players and I can fully understand why he is so fucked off.

I think our defenders need to look at themselves after this....learn from it...or....it is bye bye FA Cup. We'll be eaten alive by their long ball shite.

In the semi, we were getting totally outplayed for precisely 28 mins. The game thread confirms it...all of sudden, it changed. Why? I think that he pushed NDJ and Barry forward a bit and closed off their supply lines. From that point on, other than a free kick, it was game over. At least it is when you watch the game again. At the time, I just shat meself for 95 minutes.

There was a camera shot of him giving instructions to the back four, he pushed them further up the field which in turn pushed the deep midfielders up as well.

By defending deep, it allows opponents a larger target area for the long ball. It also means that should we not deal with it effectively, the ball trends to be in an areas nearer our goal making it more dangerous for us.

It also means that the likes of De Jong are also pulled too deep, taking them away from the opposition midfield. Scholes and Carrick were having a field day with De Jong being too far away to challenge.
It means that when Silva drops back to pick up the ball, he is not in an area that makes him effective as an attacking option. Operating in an areas that isn't threatening enough and the gap between him and Johnson and other City attackers is far too stretched. It also increases the distance that Yaya has to gallop forward.

Once we pushed up, De Jong was in the faces od Carrick and Scholes, they faded. Silva was able to link closely with Johnson and Johnson then became more effective anf threatening. If we defend further upfield, Stoke's tactics will be less threatening or effective.
The players know this...they have been told time and time again. Mancini was screaming at them at Wembley. he was fucking livid again today. It is commom bloody sense.

Yes, but Vieira clearly didn't last the pace.
And he was never going to
Its alright playing him against Blackburn, and Wet Spam.

But Moyes has had two Cup Finals every year since we've bought Lescott
And he's won all four of them!
