Postby Alioune DVToure » Sun May 08, 2011 11:14 am

Who would you like to see come and go in the summer? For me...

Out:

Bridge (for sale)
Onuoha (for sale, for his sake)
Given (for sale, same reason)
Guidetti (season-long loan)
Bellamy (for sale, ship has sailed now)
Jo (for sale)
Santa Cruz (for sale)
Adebayor (for sale, can't see it working out for him now)

In:

Charles N'Zogbia
Ali Al-Habsi
Javi Martínez
Ashley Young
Sergio Agüero or Karim Benzema (if Tevez goes)

Returning:

Caicedo (loan out or sell in Janurary if struggling for game time)

Other changes:

Appoint Vieira as player-coach.

That will do for me.

Out
given (great keeper and easily in the top tier in the prem. Just we have a keeper whose imho not quite at his level but has the potential to surpass him and he must be played.)

Ned (good player but will NEVER make it at City, i'm afraid.)
Bridge (sorry Wayne, good player can't defend needs to be replaced.)
Boyata (make or break stage in his career, needs to leave on loan I think so he doesn't do a Ned).

Johnson M. (too injury prone and tbh not as good as we made him out to be, would be great at Villa or someone if fit)
Vieira (hasn't really got the legs this season. Wouldn't sell but would move to a full coaching role or sack Platt and give Vieira his job)

RSC (never worked out for Roque, again good player for the Uefa level team, will score if give chances. Reckon he'd be a legend smewhere like Stoke if he didn't get broken up in training.)
Jo (love this guy and still believe he has potential, kind of a cult hero but only a very average footballer, never likely to develop)
Bellamy (hasn't the legs anymore)
Ade (Not made for us and I think he'll end up in Turkey or Greece or MLS or something. Much more suited to being a big fish in a small pond)

IN
A good backup keeper. Cudicini or someone
A top left back, hard to find and no suggestions, Clichy may be available but hes imho not much better than Kolorov.
Creative Midfielder (someone who plays simular position to Silva, Kaka would be nice or take Modric from Spurs.
Another out and out winger would be nice. Bayern have two nice ones.
We don't need a whole lot up front tbh, Balotelli, Tevez, Dzeko good enough for me, if Carlos goes we may need to replace with someone I heart theres this Drogba fella whose not too happy at Chelsea.

Do not get the Aguero love in.

Ashley Young is a great shout - a left midfielder who can cross the ball and gets assists. Plus he's out of contract so we'd save a signing on fee. Playing 2 natural wide players would give us both balance and a plan B.

Contract runs out at the end of NEXT season. Still, this should keep his price down to the 7/8 million mark if he states his desire to leave.

Javi Martinez had a miserable season at Bilbao, i think he "scored" three own goals. For me the list is this:

Out: Shay, Onouha, Bridge, Caicedo, Jo, Santa Cruz, Adeba,Bellers,SWP (?) Balotelli (?), Tevez (?). The last three are 50/50 for me

In: Al Habsi, a central defender: Chiellini, Cahill (but unprobable) or another who is premiership material and can replace Kolo. A left back : Baines, i don't think Kolarov can confirm. A David Silva player in the middle, a baller, maybe Juan Mata (anyway, here City must spend), a winger: Alexis Sanchez and if Balo or Tevez leaves us i think we need again a striker with ball control, we have power (Dzek). First name for me is Hulk, Bent is another interesting name and maybe Defoe, but even Cavani can do (but they are unlikely).

love how everyone wants another five or six players.

think it'll be the summer of squad pruning, while adding two or three players that will actually make an impact.

if we buy six players, i hope half of them are U18s that can be homegrown players for us in a few years.

Disagree. Once we clear out the last reamining deadwood (Jo, Bridge...), we're gonna have to get the numbers back up.

Also, this is one of the last remaining windows in which we can truly splash out. The weak points in the squad need to be identified and remedied.

Not when I've seen him - and I watch a fair bit of Spanish football. Ask any fans of Athletic if they'd be happy to see him leave.

Also, bagging a couple of unlucky own goals doesn't make a player poor.

I admit I have no clue which position Javi Martinez plays or anything else but imho we need to step it if we really want to make the next step.
I think N'zogbia & young may strengthen our team but it will Not take us any closer to top 3. And Al-Habsi? ...

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Al-Habsi would be to replace the outgoing Given. Al-Habsi is a fine goalkeeper and I'm sure he'd rather be on our bench than Bolton's.

I don't understand how you can write off Javi Martínez if you admit to knowing nothing about him. As I mentioned in another thread, we need to be in the market for players who are proven quality but yet to peak, like Arsenal did with Anelka, Vieira and Henry; like Chelsea did with Essien and Cech; like the scummers did with Hernández, Ronaldo and Nani. Martínez fits the bill perfectly, and his game is ideally suited to our league.

Finally, I'm of the opinion that the squad isn't far off. In fact, I think if we were to make NO new signings this summer, we'd still improve on this season next time around. This group of players will be more of a unit next season. And no, my target isn't "4th again", but I would be happy with 3rd and another final. Any signs of steady progress would be most welcome.

Ah, yeah I guess I was a bit too harsh on Al-Habsi. I'd rather put a punt on Sorensen though should Given go.

And I did not mean to write off Javi Martinez. Like I said I do not know anything about him. What I meant was that even if he is the next biggest thing after Messi I'd still be unsure whether it is enough to take us to the next level - yet.

And also, I agree as well that the team would be stronger next season even without new signings. But I don't think it's enough.

Last thing we want to do is completely change the team by making lots of signings. Lets keep the core of the team the same. A couple of wingers and Gary Cahill is all we need imo. If Tevez leaves i'd look to get a cheapish proven striker.
