I admit I have no clue which position Javi Martinez plays or anything else but imho we need to step it if we really want to make the next step.
I think N'zogbia & young may strengthen our team but it will Not take us any closer to top 3. And Al-Habsi? ...

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Al-Habsi would be to replace the outgoing Given. Al-Habsi is a fine goalkeeper and I'm sure he'd rather be on our bench than Bolton's.

I don't understand how you can write off Javi Martínez if you admit to knowing nothing about him. As I mentioned in another thread, we need to be in the market for players who are proven quality but yet to peak, like Arsenal did with Anelka, Vieira and Henry; like Chelsea did with Essien and Cech; like the scummers did with Hernández, Ronaldo and Nani. Martínez fits the bill perfectly, and his game is idelly suited to our league.

Finally, I'm of the opinion that the squad isn't far off. In fact, I think if we were to NO new signings this summer, we'd still improve on this season next time around. This group of players will be more of a unit next season. And no, my target isn't "4th again", but I would be happy with 3rd and another final. Any signs of steady progress would be most welcome.

Ah, yeah I guess I was a bit too harsh on Al-Habsi. I'd rather put a punt on Sorensen though should Given go.

And I did not mean to write off Javi Martinez. Like I said I do not know anything about him. What I meant was that even if he is the next biggest thing after Messi I'd still be unsure whether it is enough to take us to the next level - yet.

And also, I agree as well that the team would be stronger next season even without new signings. But I don't think it's enough.

Reading back over my post, I think the highlighted part was a bit rude of me so I apologise for that.

I think we need to just tweak the squad a bit so that we have a squad that's stronger in terms of balance, depth and versatility but a bit lighter in terms of numbers. I think my ins-and-outs would take care of that.

And I'm not sure we need to make any 'marquee' signings, either as a statement of intent or in terms of genuinely improving the squad. All of our best players are aged 20-28, which makes for a pretty young team that's only going to improve.

Any suggestions in terms of names? I can't think of a LB who might become available that I'd actually want.

If Tevez goes, Drogba, Drogba, and Drogba. He is not past it at all we could prob get him for £20m and we'll definitely get two more seasons out of him it would be an absolute steal. He can play on his own or in a partnership, and is proven in the prem while Dzeko finds his feet. Cannot believe more people aren't crying out for this like I am!

He's probably the best short term option.

Would be well up for that.He still has it, he's an absolute nightmare for defenders.

Also think we need a bit of pace, Robben would be a nice addition.

As usual left back is the stand out position for me to sort out once and for all.Strong reports that Clichy may be on the move but i would much prefer Fabio Coentrao myself he's a fantastic player.

Kolarov is far better than Clichy imo.

Now, I do not profess to know a great deal about Clichy, but I find it very hard, nay, fucking incredible to believe that Kolarov is better than any left back in the premier league (Bridge included). He is absolute fucking pony with no redeeming qualities

think it'll be the summer of squad pruning, while adding two or three players that will actually make an impact.

if we buy six players, i hope half of them are U18s that can be homegrown players for us in a few years.

Disagree. Once we clear out the last reamining deadwood (Jo, Bridge...), we're gonna have to get the numbers back up.

Also, this is one of the last remaining windows in which we can truly splash out. The weak points in the squad need to be identified and remedied.

so do you think we need a bunch of players or not? you tell me we need to get the numbers back up, then tell someone else the squad isn't far off and we'd improve next season with no squad additions - i agree with the last bit btw.

for me we need 3 squad players (players that would play on a regular basis): another central defender to partner kompany, an attacking midfielder type (ideally someone who could also play wide and put in a cross, or sit behind a no 9 like van der vaart has at spuds), and a striker to replace tevez when he goes in the summer.

my list:
westwood/hennessey (like al habsi but let's take advantage of the backup GK position to get some homegrown players in the squad for europe so we don't have to put wastes of space like logan in the squad)
cahill/hummels/subotic
sneijder

If I'm not mistaken, the aim is for City with the resources and backing now available to become one of the biggest and best clubs/sides in the world.

if you think the likes of Barry, Milner, Jo, Bridge etc would be able to match the likes of Real Madrid, Barca etc then I'm afraid it is you, who's talking bollocks.
