If I'm not mistaken, the aim is for City with the resources and backing now available to become one of the biggest and best clubs/sides in the world.

if you think the likes of Barry, Milner, Jo, Bridge etc would be able to match the likes of Real Madrid, Barca etc then I'm afraid it is you, who's talking bollocks.

well, kind sir, i think you'll find in that case that my shopping list is indeed, better.

it has roughly the same likelihood as yours by the way.

how much would you estimate your list costs, plus the chances of actually getting them all?

I mentioned him quite some time ago as someone I thought looked stunningly good & a potential genius but I've simply not seen enough of him since then to know if he's continued at the same level/improved. As a club though, we should have spotted him & be on the ball as to whether he's on course to be the dog's doodahs or not.

We employ a lot of people to do his kind of thing these days rather than Stuart Pearce on a moped.

I reckon with the outs a net spend of about £80m.

I reckon we could get them all.

Some good shouts but I reackon trying to squeeze too many in at once will take us backwards before it takes us forwards. We're at the stage where we can tweak and keep improving. Chelsea and Arsenal are no better than us.

What a coincidence...given that you are asked about a shopping list...all of you want to buy footballers....amazing!!!

Bacon
eggs
cheese
milk
bread
tea
sugar (not Alan)
Assorted fruits and veg...(not including any rags' players)
Biscuits...(not the one who plays at Barca)

That should keep me going for a few days.

Guidetti (season-long loan)
Bellamy (for sale, ship has sailed now)
Jo (for sale)
Santa Cruz (for sale)
Adebayor (for sale, can't see it working out for him now)

In:

Charles N'Zogbia
Ali Al-Habsi
Javi Martínez
Ashley Young
Sergio Agüero or Karim Benzema (if Tevez goes)

Returning:

Caicedo (loan out or sell in Janurary if struggling for game time)

Other changes:

Appoint Vieira as player-coach.

That will do for me.

I take it your target is 4th place again?
I admit I have no clue which position Javi Martinez plays or anything else but imho we need to step it if we really want to make the next step.
I think N'zogbia & young may strengthen our team but it will Not take us any closer to top 3. And Al-Habsi? ...

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Al-Habsi would be to replace the outgoing Given. Al-Habsi is a fine goalkeeper and I'm sure he'd rather be on our bench than Bolton's.

I don't understand how you can write off Javi Martínez if you admit to knowing nothing about him. As I mentioned in another thread, we need to be in the market for players who are proven quality but yet to peak, like Arsenal did with Anelka, Vieira and Henry; like Chelsea did with Essien and Cech; like the scummers did with Hernández, Ronaldo and Nani. Martínez fits the bill perfectly, and his game is ideally suited to our league.

Finally, I'm of the opinion that the squad isn't far off. In fact, I think if we were to make NO new signings this summer, we'd still improve on this season next time around. This group of players will be more of a unit next season. And no, my target isn't "4th again", but I would be happy with 3rd and another final. Any signs of steady progress would be most welcome.

Couldn't agree more with that last column. As a team we've improved all season and I feel team is gelling well. Unlike many here I don't expect us to win the league next year. Steady progress with points tally and quality of football is what I'm looking for. Especially if we win the cup.

Also, I fully agree with your earlier post. This is the time to get rid of high earning deadwood and add couple of top quality players. When the new rules are in place we can start getting tons of kids.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I know this sounds daft, but having Elano back as back up to Silva would be perfect.

We need a Nani type winger, a CM and a LB as well. Upgrades to what we currently have.

Oh and if we sign Robben, I'm off.

Out:

Bridge (for sale)
Onuoha (for sale)
Given (for sale)
Guidetti ( sadly out of contract)
Bellamy (for sale)
Jo (for sale)
Caicedo (for sale)
Santa Cruz (for sale)
Adebayor (for sale)

In:

Wayne Hennessey
Leighton Baines
Gary Cahill
Alexis Sánchez
Ashley Young (Would most likely end up playing for the scum)
Eden Hazard (cant see him leaving Lille at the moment)
Kaká (or any other world class playmaker)
Falcao played 50 games with Porto scoring 41 during those games!! or most likely Edinson Cavani (as Mancini likes to bring players from Italy)

**Sergio Agüero (sadly wont leave wants to see out his contract which ends in 2014).

Returning:

Weiss

Wouldn't surprised me if Adebayor ends up returning as we might not find a buyer.

Other changes:

Appoint Vieira as player-coach. (I really like this idea, I still think there's another season in Vieira).

The only difference between Elano & Silva is; Silva is a world class player who tries really hard.

Elano is back with Santos and he's done for me. We need a player like Silva's quality keeping in mind our target to progress.

The fact is that we don't need a huge amount of players, maybe 2-3 big signings and the rest must be backup players with Premiership experience. I think the main thing that City is missing are ballers, players like Silva up front. We have power, huge power but we need tehnique. Imagine a team that has city defensive midfielders and 3 players like David Silva in front and imagine the damage they can make.

Our main needs are a playmaker as a backup to Silva, or even playing alongside him in some games, and two top class wingers; this way we could set up with a 4231 formation, and exploit Dzeko's strengths. If Tevez stays then he could sometimes fill the role of the playmaker, as I'd expect Silva to drift on the left, Tevez to play behind the striker and run into space, and Dzeko to be our spearhead. In that case we would still need a couple wingers though, and a backup playmaker in case both Silva and Tevez are out for any reason (suspension, injury, turnover, whatever).

Does anyone think here that Menez from Roma is a solution and feels frustrated that Real brought Sahin for only 10 mil, a great playmaker that helped Dortmund win the league, a player we didn't even tried to buy with this extremly good price?
