Or we hit the 1st man or kick it straight to the goalkeeper when we have a penalty area full of players over 6 foot tall to aim at.

Very true, although Balotelli has been shooting some blinding free kicks which, unfortunately for him, were just wide, or just saved. He should take more of them. However, we really need to learn to cross a frickin' ball into the penalty box, especially with corners and indirect free kicks. Dzeko, Balotelli, Lescott, Kompany, Richards, Yaya Toure, Barry, we've got huge players play week in and out that can easily nick a goal here and there. It is not rocket science. We can see it, why can't they?

Real and Barça seem to be doing alright playing set pieces at the level they are at the moment.
There is a stat on Barclays Prem site that gives the number of headers scored by each player, from that one can calculate that we are about average with most teams. If I remember right them fuckers across the way were slightly better than most teams but to get to their level we need a bit more than being good at set pieces.
Its not the thing that is going to make them champions.
Berbasulk has managed to score a few this year and he is not the best header of the ball.

As has been pointed out, we were struggling with this kind of thing when Pearce was here & I recon you can actually go back to Keegan's latter days. Preace briefly improved things but then it went back to being shit. We've been vulnerable to others & failed to exploit possibilities ourselves for all that time, through all those managers & seem to have got worse rather than better.

If Lescott was playing for Everton, it would have been him scoring the winner v us last weekend. Something is badly wrong & it has to be solved if we're to be title challengers.

Cant be arsed counting.Did it once before.
This year we are probably a little down but over the past years we have been average.

So two or three is average?

I wonder how many we concede compared to how many we score & whether that is also typical ? Well I know it's not, I'm just being a smartarse; it's fucking dreadful. We had a brief spell, last season when it looked as if we were starting to solve it, then we went back to being mainly shit. It's not just direct goals or headed goals, it's also the kind of goal DeJong scored from 2nd ball at a corner. Other teams score more like that from corners & also missed clearences from crosses. We are amongst the worst in the whole country at any kind of crosses, corners, diagonals, indirect free kicks etc etc. It's not just about scoring from the 1st ball, it's about the problems it causes then leading to a goal afterwards.

I can't.

I already know we're fucking useless at those things. I've been studying it for years when watching us play & seeing how other teams do things. I've said before, the stats don't always tell the full story, they just help to give a bit of extra info.

This is how ESPN(quite a reputable company)reported the Real goals from corners you have used to make your point,

http://www.premierleague.com/page/Playe ... 10,00.html.

In the same way goals in the EPL are reported. From that it is a statistic that can be used to confirm the point I am trying to make that from what I have been able to calculate we are average at set pieces.

With the greatest respect, I'm not interested in your stats as I've been studying it myself & I know I'm right.

For me it says how the goal was scored. From that it leads me to figure out that it was a headed goal or a headed flick on.By reading or watching what happens in games that I cannot see completly I can work out averages. Its just if you have time and what you would find interesting.

But if you spend 10 seconds actually looking at strikers/defenders etc and comparing the stats, immediately it shows that just about every player scores more headers than his City equivalent inluding players who've signed for City compared to their record at previous clubs! It just backs up completely what I'm saying. Drogba has scored 18 headers on his own, Kevin Doyle has 14.

Imagine if there was also a stat for goals scored from rebounds after corner kicks, goals scored from crosses along the ground, rebounds from those etc etc, which is what I'm referring to, not just headers? Then it woiuld make sense & be relevent to what I'm saying. The only stat available that could help my point is is the one about headed goals. Ok, compare players at City who would be most likely to score from headers, with similar players at other clubs & see what you get. It becomes apparent immediately that I'm right if you spend one minute comparing such players. Just compare Lescott with Everton & City. Almost all of Lescott's everton goals were either headers or scrambles where he stook out a leg after corners crosses etc. Look at the difference.
