Roberto Mancini has set his sights on the mind blowing signings Harry Redknapp talked about on Monday, with the Manchester City boss suggesting the door is ajar for Cesc Fabregas and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp inferred on Monday that City had huge signings in the bag, provided they qualified for the Champions League. They did that with a 1-0 win over Tottenham and Mancini can now step up his recruitment process.

The Italian has insisted there are roles at the club for Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko, but he is also looking at recruits.

He was asked which player would turn City into champions and rather than roll out the stock answer of Lionel Messi, he simply stated: "Cesc Fabregas".

Arsenal resisted efforts from Barcelona to prise their captain away from the Emirates Stadium last summer, but with another season without silverware the focus may be on Fabregas again.

How serious Mancini was is not clear, but he certainly has the financial might to test Arsenal's resolve and will likely spend big.

Ibrahimovic worked under Mancini in Italy and he may be available, having been sent on loan to AC Milan by Barcelona.

"If Zlatan wants to come to City, I would immediately find a place for him," Mancini said.

"Our target at the start of the season was to qualify for the Champions League and reach a big final - so we have managed to do that.

"As I said when I arrived, in two or three years, Manchester City can become one of the top clubs in Europe. We have everything you need to do this."

City can cap their season with victory in the FA Cup on Saturday, live on ESPN, and the Italian has urged his players to turn their attentions to Stoke.

He said: "Now we must think of the weekend. This latest win will give us a lift for Saturday."

Zlatan at Eastlands? Bullshit! But Cesc in a skyblue shirt ... oh God of the Football, I'd leave immediately Italy to build a new life in England if this should be true!
From Torino, Italia to Manchester, Lancashire this City is always our City!

That's fucking hilarious.

So Tevez is worth 40m and Eto is worth 45m. What are their respective ages?

Fuck off. I do like Eto and I was hoping to fuck he'd sign that time, but if its a swap, its a swap plus a nice wedge of cash.

As for "opening the door" for Cesc... that's a no brainer, but a no hoper I reckon.

Redknapp said we've signed them, so why would Mancini have to set his sights on them?

Can't believe we would entertain Eto'o after he messed us about when we wanted him. We have moved on to another level now in terms of who we can attract and think we would look at younger, hungrier talent.

Fabregas would be a fantastic addition, but can't see him coming here having rubbished us in the past.

is Nasri better than Fabregas, or am I high?
Berbatov wins golden boot, spends following season on the bench while his team loses title on goal difference. Well played, Fergie.

You might be high but your not a million miles from making sense either.

A season at arsenal without cesc might clear it up.

unlike most i think Ibra is a fucking treasure and would have him in an instant.

Fabs would be a no-brainer as well, but he's lost a little shine for me the last couple seasons. He's still young tho...how could we complain? I know one thing though, well-schooled Arsenal fans think he's redundant to plans so if someone wants to spend crazy money they will not cry to see the back of him. They've got Wilshere and Ramsey for starters, and think they will be fine without Cesc.

cheers

Everything points to a shakeup at Arse, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Fabregas leaves after his moaning for the past few summers. It would be a chance for Arsene to shape his midfield around the two you mentioned and use the funds from cashing in on Fabregas to strengthen his defence and buy a keeper (possibly even Given if Cesc comes here).

Last year I was deep down hoping we would sign Yaya before it ever came to light, this year its Nasri. Fingers crossed.
